friends in Gaza told us this:
“Allowing Palestinians to leave Gaza—does this help Israel’s ethnic cleansing?”
Their answer was honest and unanimous:
“Yes, we love our land. But our lives, and the lives of our children, are worth more than land alone.”
They said:
We want peace. If we cannot find it here, then we want to move somewhere we can live in safety and dignity, instead of being refugees generation after generation. We have skills, hopes, and dreams. And without the chance to pursue those dreams, we lose a part of our humanity.
We cannot reclaim our land without real help—help we are not receiving. The world continues to arm Israel while punishing ordinary people for even speaking out. We have the love and solidarity of people everywhere, but not a single government with the power to stop our destruction has chosen to act. Instead, some punish and silence those who try to help us.
Under these conditions, what future do we have? Without change from Israel itself, we fear our only land will be a grave.
Those who wish to stay in Gaza absolutely should—but do not claim to help us by trapping us in a place where we face death against our will. You may believe you know what is best for us, that sacrificing our children somehow protects the future. But would you make this choice for yourselves? Would you choose it for your own children?
If you believe remaining in Gaza is the right path, then come and live here with your families. Share our reality. But Israel would not allow you to cross that barrier, and we do not believe you would choose to if you could. So why impose that choice on us?
Some say Israel wants us to leave. But everything we see suggests otherwise: they kill freely yet restrict who can escape. When other nations offer to receive people, Israel sometimes approves a few names and blocks the rest without reason.
We want to live. While we have life, we have hope. We have a culture, a history, and dreams to give our children. We can care for one another and for the earth. The world needs people who keep their humanity even in the worst storms—and we have so much to give, not only to Palestine but to the world.
Do not keep us on death row and call it resistance. Do not deny us life and call it solidarity. That is hypocrisy.
