Neurodivergent Lense

Neurodivergent Lense I'm a late diagnosed neurodivergent mom
with newly diagnosed neurodivergent 11 year old.

21/03/2025

One of my Neurodivergent traits is that I don't remember people's faces or names easily. Or that I call people by the wrong name. I'm working on it!

And whilst I'm working on it,
I just smiled and said "Hi" to a lady in Tesco.

So now she's probably walking around the shop, wondering "where do I know her from?"

Turns out she doesnt.
She never met me in her life.

I'm Sorry!

Neurodiversity at work... notepads, notebooks, diary's, timers, reminders, schedules....

What helps with executive functions?

I never talked to my son about discrimination. I wanted him to grow up knowing the world should be fair and not see him as different.

Unfortunately he is starting to experience events in his life, which make him feel like the world is not always fair to him.

How to explain to a 12 year old, who looks like a 16 year old,
that even though it's wrong, people make a judgement about him based on perceptions.

How to let him remain his personality and mould out of perceptions at the same time
All whilst accepting his neurodiversity....

A 12 year old, who zips himself inside the duvet covers and makes happy noises because he's excited about going back to his friends ๐Ÿงก

How do I explain to him that many schools didn't want him, because of the projections and risk assessments?!

I left secret reminders in the diary for myself.

Like a ? To double check that the client's payment has definately cleared.

And prep reminder to make my following morning easier.

Being a mum of a neurodivergent 11 (nearly 12) year old is not always easy.

Every day I pick him up from school, he doesn't want to talk, he doesn't want to be touched, and he locks himself away in his room.

For a long time I was worried, that his mental health is declining. Thanks to his diagnosis in May, I now understand him better.
It doesn't mean it's easy. I'm still learning, how his Autism presents itself on a daily basis.

As a woman with ADHD, one thing I quickly learned since my diagnosis, is how menstrual cycle affects my mood and energy level during the month.

As a business owner with ADHD, I am still learning to listen to my body and plan my month effectively.

This week, I decided to take some time out of the office, apply time limit on my social media apps ("parental control") and focus on my mental and physical wellbeing.

Luckily, I am supported by very capable ladies in the background, who enable me to switch off for a little bit.

Do you listen to your body and take breaks when needed?

P.s. my rest time means I can catch up on my Level 7 qualification and complete outstanding tasks and get extra cuddles with my moody cat ๐Ÿˆ
