How Can Stress Affect Your Skin?

We often think about how stress affects our mood or sleep, but it can affect our skin too.

When we feel stressed, the body releases hormones such as cortisol and triggers other changes in the body. These can sometimes:

Increase skin sensitivity

Contribute to dryness

Disrupt the skin barrier

Trigger flare-ups in people prone to eczema, psoriasis or rosacea

Stress doesn’t “cause” skin conditions, but it can make symptoms feel more noticeable or uncomfortable.

Keeping your skincare routine simple and consistent can help support your skin during stressful periods. Try using our emollients, AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream, AproDerm Emollient Cream, AproDerm Gel, or AproDerm Ointment, which may help you to hydrate the skin and protect the skin barrier when it needs extra support.

And remember, taking a few quiet minutes to care for your skin can also be a moment to slow down and reset. 🫶🏼

Would you like to try our emollients? Get your hands on our AproDerm Emollient Starter Pack to help take the stress out of finding out which one is best for your skin. 🌸 April is Rosacea Awareness Month 🌸

Rosacea affects many people in the UK, yet many are unaware of how to manage it effectively. This month, we’re here to raise awareness, share helpful tips, and offer support for those living with rosacea.

Did you know rosacea is more commonly diagnosed in people with fair skin?

Here are a few symptoms to look out for:

🌸 Facial redness (this can look purple on darker skin tones)

🌸 Redness that can develop small red or pus-filled bumps

🌸 Tiny visible blood vessels

🌸 Skin thickening

🌸 Eye irritation

How you manage it depends on the symptoms and their severity, and usually includes a combination of self-care measures and treatments. If you’d like to know more, have a look at the NHS website by clicking this link here: Rosacea

At AproDerm, we’re passionate about providing gentle, effective care for rosacea-prone skin. Let’s raise awareness and offer support this April.

Our Story

When you are told “Your baby has eczema” these words leave you feeling numb at first and then slowly the dread starts to creep in.

So many questions are rushing through your head. Will she grow out of it?

Why does she have eczema? Is it my fault she has it?

To many people, having eczema might not seem like a big deal, it’s just a bit of dry skin, right? But my husband and I have seen how much it can affect people’s lives. As parents and pharmacists, you understand the effects any condition can have on everyday life and the battles people with eczema can face on a daily basis. The constant itching, the blood-stained clothes and bedsheets, the sleepless nights tending to her sore, inflamed skin. Eczema is known as a disease of the skin, but it’s not only the skin its effects. It can affect the mental health and wellbeing of not only the individual but those close to them as well. Long-term suffering impacts the quality of the lives of the people who have it as well as those of us who care for them.
