🧠 September is World Alzheimer's Month

Not everyone with dementia forgets their loved ones. Not every story is the same. What many families share, though, is a quiet strength, built on routines, glances, and small moments that still connect.

This month, let’s talk more openly. Let’s learn more carefully. And let’s remind ourselves that behind every diagnosis is a person with a history, a sense of humour, and a need for dignity.

Whether you're supporting someone close to you or simply learning how to be more understanding in your community, your awareness matters.

🏡 Getting Ready for a Hospital Discharge
Coming home after a hospital stay can feel overwhelming. A few small changes can make things safer and more comfortable:

🔸 Clear walkways – Remove rugs, wires or anything that could cause a trip.
🔸 Check seating – Use chairs with armrests and firm cushions.
🔸 Keep essentials close – Place things like medication, water and glasses within easy reach.
🔸 Stay on one floor – Set up a bed and living space downstairs if stairs are a challenge.

A bit of planning can make all the difference for a smoother recovery.

🏡 Bank Holiday Visits: A Chance to Check In, Not Just Catch Up

For many families, the Bank Holiday means packing the car and heading off to visit parents or grandparents. These visits are often full of chatter and cups of tea, but they can also highlight changes that aren’t always easy to talk about.

Here are a few gentle things to keep an eye on during your visit:

🕰 Is your loved one keeping track of time and daily tasks?
📦 Is there unopened post or packages tucked away?
🍽 Are there signs they’re skipping meals or struggling with cooking?
🚪 Do they seem more anxious or hesitant about leaving the house?

If something feels different, it may be time to start a quiet conversation. Support at home doesn’t have to mean big changes, but it can make a big difference.

What actually happens during a home care visit?

It’s one of the most common questions we hear, from sons, daughters, and partners who want to know what kind of support their loved one will receive.

The answer? It depends on the person. But here are just a few things we often help with:

🥣 Preparing breakfast or a warm drink
🛁 Support with washing, dressing, and getting ready for the day
💊 Prompting medication
📬 Helping open post or manage daily tasks
🪴 A short walk or time in the garden
📺 Sitting down for a chat, some telly, or simply being there

If you’re starting to think about home care, we’re here to talk things through.

We keep families involved and informed, so everyone feels supported.

If you're considering care options, we’re here to help you explore what’s possible.
