If you’re feeling a bit crabby this week maybe it’s not just all down to the heat as we find ourselves heading towards the new moon in cancer - a creature with a hard outer shell and a soft underbelly.

The Cancer New Moon is at 11.31am on Wednesday 25th and calls for us to pause and reset emotionally and intuitively. Cancer, ruled by the Moon itself, is the zodiac sign most aligned with the themes of nurturing, home, emotional security, and inner life. When the Moon returns to its home sign in its darkest phase, it invites us inward—urging us to reconnect with our emotional bodies, reflect on what makes us feel safe, and initiate healing from the inside out.

The photo above always brings a huge smile to my face — a memory from my favourite yoga retreat of 2023 where new friendships were made and we laughed a lot renaming goddess pose the cosmic crab as demonstrated above.

As we welcome the new moon in Cancer this week, we’ll be drawing its gentle, intuitive energy into our practice. Cancer reminds us that it’s okay to have a tough shell — we all do. But yoga gives us the space to soften, to feel, and to reconnect with the more tender parts of ourselves.
Come move, breathe, and soften as we peel back the layers, maybe laugh a little (or a lot), and make some magic together on the mat.

Please note that this Tuesday’s class will be at the super cool 7-8.15 honouring the new moon in Cancer - this is the last session there before our summer break - its a beautiful space and a beautifully themed practice so do come along if it appeals.

Tonight the sun stands still at its highest point — the longest day, the shortest night. On this sacred Midsummer eve an ancient tradition is to leave out some strawberries beneath the fading light — a sweet offering to the fairy folk and the quiet guardians of the in-between giving thanks for their protection.

If you like spelling or ritual leave some water out under the glow of the solstice sun, soaking up its radiant energy. You bring it in at dawn, charged with the fullness of light and life to use in rituals and blessings — a bottle of sunbeam to carry you through until Winter Solstice.

Summer solstice blessings and if you’d like to celebrate more then join us in ritual tomorrow for our summer solstice sister Circle - movement, cacao, yin yoga and sound healing - and of course strawberries - a real treat 1.45-5.45

I was at Stonehenge this week and it was amazing - I could really feel the magical energy there. There are days when I despair at our lack of connection as we gaze at our screens all day or even worse doom scroll at what the orange faced tw*t with the bad hair is up to next feeling powerless in our isolation. This is not the way we are meant to live so it’s heartening to know that 22,000 are expected to be at Stonehenge this weekend on the longest day of the year celebrating and connecting in sacred ceremony.

The solstice translates as sun stands still and we’re invited to pause, reflect, and realign.

In Southampton I’ll be celebrating in my favourite way in ceremony with other women — in a held, sacred space where we can drop out of the noise of the world and into the rhythm of our own bodies, breath, and intuition.

There is something so beautiful about coming together in community to honour the seasonal transitions — especially as women. These ancient thresholds remind us that we’re cyclical beings, forever shifting between light and shadow, growth and stillness.

On this magical day, we’ll gather for a 4-hour journey of yoga, movement, cacao, sound healing guided journeying and sisterhood — a space to soften, expand, and connect.

It’s a chance to remember who you are beneath the busy, and to be witnessed by others doing the same.

If you feel the call to join us there’s two spaces left for gentle energy release practices, cacao, sound healing, yin yoga and guided journeying in circle

Come as you are — tender, radiant, tired, curious. There is space for all of us here.

So no classes this week as I’m away completing the final part of my Energy Medicine training — which likely involve a fair amount of weeping and wailing in an ancient manor in Oxford.

This journey to access our inner magic began in April 2024 and has been a wild and wonderful ride. It’s hard to put words on it as much of it involves dropping out of the mind and tuning into the deeper wisdom held in the body — a process that feels more like remembering than learning. From it, new offerings have been born: moon sessions in the cemetery, the monthly energy release and reset circles, and deeper, more intuitive Reiki healing sessions. These make me so happy as they continue to evolve bringing deep connection, not only to myself, but to the beautiful community forming around them.

If any part of you feels even slightly curious about these sessions — follow that whisper. That’s your body’s wisdom calling. So often, our fast-paced lives pull us into our heads, distracting us from what we really need. We lose touch with the quiet messages within, the ones that say: “rest,” “move,” “breathe,” “feel.”

“The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in.” – B.K.S. Iyengar

See you next Tuesday when classes begins again and still a couple of spaces left for my Summer Solstice sister circle ceremony -four precious hours of yoga, energetic release work, sound healing, cacao and guided journeying

As we leave May behind and approach the summer solstice—a time of light, warmth, and renewal—this coming Saturday’s energy release and reset session is devoted to connection, celebration, and embodiment.
This space is for women ready to let go of the noise: no pressure to be anything other than yourself. No tyranny of the toxic wellness world where botox and fillers are normalised. No people-pleasing. Just freedom, vitality, and real connection with women walking the same path.

We’ll move through a nourishing blend of guided meditation, ceremonial cacao, dance, yoga, and breathwork—all designed to help you reconnect with your body, release stored tension, and awaken your inner radiance.

Let this be a reset. A softening. A remembering.
Let’s come together to celebrate who we are—raw, real, and deeply alive.

All crafted to help you reconnect with your body, release what’s heavy, and awaken your inner radiance.

Goodbye (for now)

I’m so so grateful to for letting me come back to East of Eden after moving away from Walthamstow in lockdown. My first departure wasn’t planned and despite building a new business in Southampton I left a little piece of my heart there in the community that is in Walthamstow - my forever happy place ❤️

The last two years have been so much fun catching up with old friends and new ones and I’ve cherished my Tuesdays there .

Time for new things now and in these troubled times it feels good to be returning to my activist roots working for an organisation I feel really passionate about in the voluntary sector for a couple of days a week.

I’ll still be teaching yoga in Southampton and some workshops in London. In the meantime goodbye for now and I’ll see you in fellowship Square for full moon and gong session in September.

Thank you thank you thank you East of Eden - the best yoga studio in London

I thought I’d escaped my annual visit of the blues this year as I felt great in January for a change. Putting my new found balanced outlook down to the masses of training in energy medicine I’ve done this year as well as taking up running I felt unstoppable and even got a tattoo of the moon and the sun as a symbolic reminder of how well I now integrate and hold the light and the dark.

Sigh. Then February came and life got in the way. Due to personal circumstances I had to take some time off and cancel some sessions whilst I wept and wailed and generally resisted everything that was showing up. If we consider the word depressed rather than view it as a failing or mental illness perhaps we can accept its phonetic invitation to take deep rest. Sometimes we need to stop and allow ourselves to stay in the dark as none of us escape it. As Jeff Foster reminds us “If you want to suffer, compare this moment with your image of how it should be!”

So humbled (and tattooed) after my hiatus it feels good to be waking up again taking comfort from sweet and simple practices to ground and soothe whilst all around us nature is waking up again reminding us to trust in the process and the cycles we find ourselves in. It can’t always be love and light with unicorns and rainbows and our real work is balancing the light and the dark.

After whining for so long when I first moved here that Southampton wasn’t exciting it’s been such a cool start to the year taking up running and today a jump in the sea.I do love being proven wrong. It was exhilarating braving the elements. Check out if you fancy excitement on a Sunday morning in January

We will be working with the elements in our yoga practices over the next few weeks (without having to jump into the sea or set fire to anything) as a reminder that we are not separate from nature but part of it. Just as the earth, water, fire and air and flow and shift - so do we- and when we bring these elements into our yoga practice, we reconnect with our natural rhythms and energies, reminding us we are part of nature and the world around us rather than the illusion of being somehow separate.

I’d love to see you https://www.sarahrushyoga.com/book-online

Tomorrow’s full moon in Cancer is also named after the howling of hungry wolves because of the scarcity of food in midwinter. This cancer full moon arrives to remind us that when winter bites, it’s time to hibernate… or at least to up your self care practices.

This Cancer Full Moon is your cosmic permission slip to indulge in comfort and reconnect with the people, places, and feelings that make you feel most at home. As the moon peaks, we’re invited to reflect on our roots—both emotional and physical—and consider how well we nurture ourselves and those we love. There’s a delicate dance here between meeting your own needs and the demands of the outside world, so let this full moon be a gentle nudge to find the sweet spot where self-care and care for others can coexist.

Cancer’s nurturing energy helps us release outdated patterns and make room for emotional clarity and it’s a perfect time to heal, embrace vulnerability, and let go of anything weighing on your heart. Reconnect with the softness of your heart and remember what makes you feel like “home.”

If you like journaling try reflecting on these prompts:

Which emotional patterns or beliefs are you ready to leave behind under this full moon’s glow? How have they shaped your sense of security and belonging?

What does “home” mean to you? Is it a place, a feeling, or something else entirely? How can you cultivate more of that comfort in your life?

How do you nurture your emotional needs? Are there ways you can show more compassion to yourself?

What family dynamics or ancestral patterns are ripe for healing? What emotional wounds need closure, and how can you begin to heal them?

How do you balance caring for others with caring for yourself? What boundaries might you need to set to protect your emotional well-being and relationships?

Where can you embrace more vulnerability in your life? How might being emotionally open and honest empower you?
