β¨International Womenβs Day β¨
May we know them, may we be them, may we be raising them π
Woman, Mighty, Proud
As a girl I often noted
that my gender stood me well
I felt powered by a knowing
like a magic in my cells
propelled by intuition
I could sense deceit and fear
I would hear true words intended
though they never crossed my ear
and then somebody told me
that girls were second best
they said we must work harder
play the game and sit the test
and this just made no sense
to my young enquiring mind
how dare they call me less
when Iβm a warrior, womankind
I flow with healing power
like the women gone before
centuries of creation
banished cruelly to the floor
and now the world is waking
to the idea we knew then
that gender does not rank us
or decide who prospers when
ceilings crash in sparkling shards
with which we fashion thrones
connected by the female threads
that grow within our bones
refuse to rest in deference to
chin up, girls, raise your heads
come dance in moonlit woodland
the patriarchyβs dead
as a girl I often notes
that my gender did me proud
and to this day I take my space
woman, mighty, loud
