Today we’re celebrating how technology is helping people thrive!

👏 Gurpinder, who has limited vision, is trialling assistive devices for everyday tasks. Making tea, finding her handbag, or opening curtains with a clap or whistle. Each small moment builds confidence and independence.

💬 Robert, who is profoundly deaf, uses a text-to-speech app to communicate with his manager and colleagues. With the right tools, he’s fully connected at work and thriving in his role at Nando’s.

🌐 Adriana uses Google Translate to bridge language barriers. Romanian is her first language, and this tech has helped her feel truly heard and understood—reigniting her love of art and creativity.

📱 With the support of travel trainers, people are mastering travel apps to navigate journeys safely, giving them the freedom to move independently in their communities.

Technology is a powerful tool for inclusion and opportunity. These stories show how traditional care and tech can come together to fuel confidence, independence, and clear communication.

We’re incredibly proud of our Shared Lives Team 🏆 for being shortlisted for the Compassion Award at the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards 2026.

This award celebrates those who consistently go above and beyond to ensure people feel safe, respected and dignified, and compassion is at the heart of everything this team does. They support self-employed Shared Lives carers who open their homes to people with additional needs, helping create nurturing, family environments where people can build independence, confidence and a true sense of belonging.

From stepping in at critical moments, including working late on New Year’s Eve to ensure someone had a safe, welcoming home, to providing ongoing guidance, flexible training and out-of-hours support, the team’s dedication makes a real difference every day.

Being named a finalist is a powerful recognition of the care, commitment and compassion this team shows to carers, families and the people they support 💙👏 Shared Lives Plus Community

After 15 years in the same role, Daniel knew he was ready for something new.

With the right support in place, he explored his strengths, identified what he enjoyed, and took charge of his next steps. Through Surrey Supported Employment Funding (SSEF), Daniel secured a laptop, enabling him to job search independently and sign up to online platforms to find his next opportunity.

When a premises assistant role at a local school caught his eye, Daniel decided to pursue it. During his paid trial days, litter picking proved challenging in certain conditions, so a picking hoop was trialled as a reasonable adjustment. The school embraced the idea and went on to order them for all three schools in the partnership - creating a positive impact not just for Daniel, but for others too.

Today, Daniel is a valued member of the school team, building new skills, growing in confidence and making a difference. star👏

So proud of our Growth Team partnership with Blackwater Valley Ranger 🌿

Working together at Rowhill and across other managed sites shows what’s possible when inclusive employment, skills development and environmental conservation come together.

We value this partnership and look forward to continuing the great work together!

Bradley wrapped up 2025 with an unforgettable adventure with his Shared Lives Carer. They swapped winter chill for sunshine, pyramids and quad biking across the desert. A brilliant way to end the year. He’s already excited for what’s next 🌍

We loved being on air this morning, talking with James Cannon about the launch of our Magic Box Project to spread festive cheer and bring a little extra magic to children in Redhill this Christmas. 🎄✨

A huge thank you to BBC Radio Surrey for having us and helping shine a light on this special project. We’re so proud to be sharing the joy with our community.

🎄 December so far…

It’s been a festive and busy start to the month across our services! We have:
❄️ Taken a magical trip to Wisley Glow, with plenty of Christmas spirit and a sing-along in the car.
❄️ Made chilli jam from home-grown chillies and joined conservation volunteers for a mince pie fuelled holly clearing session.
❄️ Enjoyed brilliant Christmas parties and socials, with festive dinners, games and lots of cheer.
❄️ Raised £220 for FareShare at a coffee and mince pie afternoon with handmade gifts and a raffle.
❄️ Begun weekly food bank collections, with customers helping sort donations and support the local community.
❄️ Enjoyed a wonderful day at the Wi******er Christmas Market, rain and all!

A lovely start to December, with lots more festive fun to come! ✨

We’re delighted to share that Surrey Choices’ Supported Employment service has been shortlisted for a Tomorrow’s Care Award!

Our EmployAbility team, Surrey Choices’ nationally recognised Supported Employment service, is dedicated to helping disabled, autistic, and neurodivergent people access meaningful employment, volunteering, and work experience opportunities.

We’re incredibly proud of the achievements of those we support, like Andrew, who found a job he loves with Knights Garden Centre. His success is just one example of how tailored support can transform lives.

What a lovely surprise to hear The Magic Box project mentioned on Susy Radio this morning! 🎄✨

Our wonderful community champions have been hard at work wrapping and delivering Christmas presents to children in Redhill who need a little extra support this year — helping make sure every child feels the magic of the season. ❤️

A huge thank you to Morrisons Reigate for donating advent calendars, and to everyone who has been part of this heart-warming project. And thank you to Susy Radio for helping us spread the word! 🎁🎙️
