Free flow painting. No themes, no pressure, just create.

Natasha from Myfika Art Studio is running open painting sessions at East Coast Studios – a 2-hour space to paint freely, breathe deeply, and just be.

What happens: There are no themes. No step-by-step instructions. No expectations. Just a canvas, some paint, and permission to explore.

Paint whatever you feel – abstract, landscape, words, colour, chaos, or calm. Or simply sit with a brush and see what unfolds.

This session is about letting go of judgment, quieting the mind, enjoying gentle conversation or comfortable silence, and trusting your creative instincts. It's also a chance to meet like-minded people, share creativity, laugh a little, and enjoy the fun side of making art together.

What is Fika? Fika is a Swedish concept that celebrates slowing down and enjoying meaningful moments together. It's about pausing the rush of life to connect, create, share conversation, and appreciate simple pleasures. In the spirit of Myfika, these sessions encourage creativity, calm, connection, and community.

The goal is not perfection. It's presence.

Light-hearted. Supportive. Calm.

You'll leave feeling clearer, lighter, inspired, and a little more connected to yourself and the people around you.

Come as you are. Paint what you feel. Leave a little freer.

Patient work. Vibrant results. Duffy guides you through it.

Once you start working with polychromos, you're drawn into them forever. Fair warning.

Thursday 12th March, 10am-12.30pm Suitable for all levels

Duffy Tomei's running a second workshop on Thursday 12th March, 1.30pm-4pm – portrait sketching with a focus on values.

This month, you'll work on understanding light and dark – the tonal values that make a portrait look three-dimensional rather than flat. It's one of the most essential skills for drawing realistic faces, and Duffy guides you through it step by step.

Whether you're new to portrait drawing or looking to sharpen your skills, this session will help you see and sketch faces with more confidence.

Thursday 12th March, 1.30pm-4pm Suitable for all levels

What's included: All materials – paper, pencils, erasers, guidance throughout. Coffee and cake at East Coast 5.

Spring flowers in gouache. Evening session.

Ian Noble's running a workshop today, Thursday 26th February, 7-9pm – painting spring flowers using gouache. If you're not familiar with gouache, it sits somewhere between watercolour and acrylic – opaque, forgiving, and has a beautiful matte finish that works particularly well for florals and botanicals.

Perfect timing as spring starts showing up and the evenings get a bit lighter. A good way to spend a Thursday night, whether you're experienced with painting or just want to try something new.

Today, Thursday 26th February, 7-9pm

What's included: All materials provided – gouache paints, paper, brushes, guidance throughout.

Calling Yoga Teachers: Join Our Team

We're on the lookout for passionate yoga instructors to join our growing community at EastCoast Studios Wellness Hub in Walton-on-the-Naze.

If you're a qualified teacher who values authenticity, inclusivity, and genuine connection over Instagram-perfect poses, we'd love to meet you.

About Us: We're a wellness hub and yoga studio located on Old Pier Street, right by the sea. Our space is welcoming, light-filled, and designed to feel like home. We're not your typical gym or corporate wellness centre—we're building a community where people can pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.

Who We're Looking For: Qualified yoga instructors with their own style and approach. Whether you teach gentle Hatha, dynamic Vinyasa, restorative yoga, or something uniquely yours—we want teachers who care about creating an accessible, grounded space for all levels.

What We Offer:

• A beautiful, versatile studio space
• A supportive, collaborative environment
• A growing community of students who genuinely want to be there
• The freedom to teach authentically

Interested? Send us a message or email hello@eastcoast-studios.co.uk. We'd love to have a coffee, show you the space, and have a proper chat about what we're building here.

Let's grow this together.

Why does everything feel stiffer in February?

The cold, damp air along the coast doesn't just settle into the buildings—it settles into our bodies too. Joints feel tighter, muscles less forgiving, and that first stretch of the day takes a bit more coaxing.

It's not in your head. Cold weather thickens the fluid around our joints and causes muscles to contract slightly, which is why everything feels a bit creakier this time of year.

The fix? Keep moving. Even gentle, regular movement helps maintain flexibility and keeps blood flowing to where it's needed. A few minutes of stretching, some breathwork, or simply rolling out your shoulders can make a real difference.

Your body doesn't need intensity right now—it needs consistency and kindness.

If you've been putting off getting back on the mat, mid-February is actually the perfect time to start. Not because it's easy, but because it matters more.

Tomorrow. Clay. Make something with your hands.

Dee Noble's running a Play with Clay workshop on Saturday 7th February, 10am-12pm. You'll learn pinch techniques to make thumb pots, then explore how to turn multiple pots into animals. It's tactile, surprisingly meditative, and genuinely satisfying.

No experience necessary – Dee guides you through each step. Whether you've never touched clay before or you're looking to try something new this weekend, this is a good way to spend a Saturday morning.

You'll leave with something you actually made, plus the knowledge of basic ceramic techniques you can use again.

Saturday 7th February, 10am-12pm

What's included: All materials. Everything you need to create your work.
