ROBIN IN WATERCOLOUR WITH MARIYA MCALLISTER

There's something quietly appealing about painting a robin in watercolour on a December morning – all those soft washes and subtle feathered textures, while the weather outside does its thing.

Join Mariya McAllister on Wednesday 4th December, 10am-1pm, for a watercolour workshop at East Coast Studios.

What you'll learn: Washes, wet-on-wet, and wet-on-dry techniques. Mariya walks you through each step, so whether you're new to watercolours or looking to refine your approach, you'll gain confidence as you work.

What's included: All materials provided – watercolour paper, paints, brushes, jars, tracing paper, pencils, erasers. Just bring an apron or wear something you don't mind getting a bit messy.

£20 per person

Getting here: Free parking by the seafront, or use the pay and display on Saville Street (High Street Parking, 1 Saville St, CO14 8PL) if you prefer being closer.

DESIGN AND DRESS A DUCK WORKSHOP

Duffy Tomei Artist has something a bit different planned for next Wednesday morning – something creative, slightly absurd, and oddly satisfying.

Join us on Wednesday 26th November, 10am-12.30pm, to design and dress your very own duck at East Coast Studios.

What's included:
Extensive selection of duck attire – hats, scarves, fur trim, angel wings, crowns, net skirts, pearl beading, and more. Plus acrylic paints and brushes to add your own finishing touches. The possibilities are genuinely ridiculous in the best way.

Coffee/tea and cake at EastCoast5 .

What you'll need:
A duck (or several). Available to purchase on the day, or pick one up beforehand from Heady's Hobbies, 69 High Street, Walton on the Naze – £8-£12. Dress as many as you like.

PAINT A ROBIN IN ACRYLICS WITH MARIYA MCALLISTER

As the light fades a little earlier and November settles in, there's something rather fitting about spending a morning painting robins – those plucky little birds that seem undeterred by the chill.

Join Mariya McAllister on Thursday 20th November, 10am-2pm, for a hands-on acrylic painting workshop at East Coast Studios.

What's included: All materials provided – easel, professional paints, brushes, and a prepped 20.3 x 20.3cm canvas. Just bring an apron or wear something you don't mind getting paint on.

Mariya walks you through blending, layering, and colour mixing. Whether you've never picked up a brush or paint regularly, the workshop moves at a pace that works for everyone. You'll leave with your own robin on canvas and a better grasp of how acrylics work.

Coffee, tea, and cake at East Coast Restaurant during the 30-minute break.

Our Linocut Christmas Cards workshops on 6th and 13th November sold out within days, so we've added one final session on 20th November.

This is the last session we're running—once it's full, it's full.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn to carve your own linocut design and hand-print beautiful Christmas cards to send this year. Ian Noble will guide you through every step, from initial design and carving techniques to inking and printing. You'll leave with a set of unique, handmade cards that are genuinely yours to share.

It's a wonderful way to create something personal and meaningful in a world of mass-produced greetings. No experience necessary—just enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands inky.

Spaces are limited, so we'd recommend booking sooner rather than later.

Mini Junk Journal Workshop with Michelle

Join us on 4th or 7th November (10am-1pm) to create your own mini junk journal—a beautiful, tactile keepsake made entirely by hand.

In this three-hour workshop, Michelle will introduce you to the art of junk journaling, where you'll transform everyday ephemera—magazine pages, patterned papers, vintage music sheets, envelopes, maps, and paper bags—into something uniquely yours. It's part collage, part bookbinding, and entirely creative.

You'll learn binding techniques, play with composition and texture, and leave with a finished journal that reflects your own style. Use it as a sketchbook, diary, scrapbook, or simply a place to collect moments and inspiration.

All materials are included, along with coffee and cake to keep you fuelled throughout the session. Complete beginners are warmly welcomed.
