Did you know that we include regular trips and outings in our activity and wellbeing programme?

Recently, St Katharines Care Home took advantage of some lovely spring weather and took a stroll down to one of our favourite haunts - The Bear Hotel in . It was a beautiful day with no rain in sight and a lovely way to get some gentle exercise in before enjoying a pint with some friends and a delicious coffee from the best coffee company (we may be slighly biased) The Oxford Coffee Company Ltd .

If you are ever in the area, we would certainly recommend the The Bear Hotel for it's friendly atmosphere, lovely food and drink and it has been an historic landmark here in Wantage for nearly 500 years, overlooking our marketplace since the 16th century.

What a truly magical day we had celebrating St Patrick’s Day here at St Katharines Care Home , where our wonderful residents, dedicated team, and visiting performers came together to create something truly special. From the moment the morning began, our home in the heart of the community was filled with laughter, colour, and the unmistakable spirit of Ireland as everyone joined in dressing up, sharing stories, and enjoying their favourite Irish tunes. ☘️

As the day unfolded, the atmosphere only grew warmer and more joyful, with music echoing through our lounges and smiles lighting up every corner. Residents reminisced, staff joined in the fun, and together we created moments of connection, happiness, and belonging that reminded us all just how important these shared celebrations are 💟

The evening brought a truly unforgettable highlight as we welcomed the incredible dancers from The O’Gara School of Irish Dance who filled the room with energy, rhythm, and joy from their very first step. Dancers of all ages took to the floor, from tiny beginners bursting with enthusiasm to experienced performers whose skill and precision were simply breathtaking, each routine telling a beautiful story of tradition, passion, and pride ✨

It was so much more than a performance, it was a heartfelt celebration that brought everyone together through music, movement, and shared joy. The clapping, the laughter, and the shining faces around the room made it an evening we will treasure for a long time to come, perfectly capturing the true spirit of St Patrick’s Day here at St Katharine’s 🤩

This week, we shared a truly special and emotional moment as we wished Shannon a happy and healthy goodbye before she begins her exciting new chapter. As she prepares to welcome her beautiful baby boy very soon, there was so much love and happiness in the room as everyone came together to celebrate her 💟

To mark the occasion, we hosted a lovely baby shower filled with laughter, joy, and unforgettable memories. Residents and staff enjoyed a variety of fun games, with the much loved nappy game bringing the most laughter as everyone guessed the mystery contents and reacted with priceless expressions 🤭

There were plenty of delicious snacks and refreshing drinks to enjoy, along with light-hearted games like pin the dummy on the baby, keeping the atmosphere cheerful and full of smiles. It was a wonderful afternoon where everyone could share in Shannon’s happiness and create lasting memories together 🎉

We send Shannon all our love and warmest wishes as she prepares for this incredible journey into motherhood. She is going to be an amazing mummy, and we cannot wait to meet her little one 💟✨

💙 Celebrating the Magic of World Book Day at Our Care Home 📚✨

We had such a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day at our care home, filling the rooms with smiles, laughter, and imagination . Our lovely residents and staff dressed up as characters from famous books, sharing the magic of stories and sparking curiosity and joy among everyone. The best part of the day was inviting everyone to guess who we were, which led to so many giggles, big smiles, and a few fun hints along the way 💜✨📚

The conversations that followed were truly special. Residents and staff reminisced about the books they have loved over the years, shared favourite stories, and talked about the simple pleasure of getting lost in a good book . Some residents immediately recognized the characters, while others took a few clues before discovering the mystery, creating moments of excitement, connection, and shared joy 🌸✨

At our care home, we know that reading isn’t just for bedtime, it can be a peaceful moment at any time of day . Whether it’s a quiet morning, a relaxing afternoon, or a cosy evening, a book has the power to transport us, spark memories, and bring people together. Today reminded us all of the joy that stories can bring and the way they connect generations and hearts 📖💐

Moments like these show us that stories truly unite us. They create laughter, conversation, and shared memories that will last long after the final page is turned . Thank you to everyone who joined in and made World Book Day so special, celebrating imagination, reading, and the simple joy of a story 🌟📚💜

This week our residents have been enjoying a wonderful variety of ball games across different areas of our home, and the joy on their faces has been so lovely to see 🎈😊
Throughout the week we came together in our lounges and activity spaces to take part in balloon tennis, seated volleyball and gentle seated ball games, creating moments filled with laughter, encouragement and friendly competition 🏐✨

These sessions are not just fun, they are incredibly beneficial. Ball games help to improve balance, strength and coordination, supporting our residents to stay physically active in a safe and low impact way 💪🧠 They also stimulate cognitive function by encouraging memory, attention and reaction time, all while reducing the risk of falls. Most importantly, they bring people together, boosting mental wellbeing through social interaction and helping to prevent feelings of loneliness 🤝 💟

Watching everyone cheer each other on, celebrate every successful hit and share stories of games they played in their childhood was truly heart-warming 🥰👏 For many, these activities sparked happy memories of younger days spent playing outside with friends and family, filling the room with nostalgia and smiles 🌳🌞

Staying active together, supporting one another and filling our home with energy and laughter is what it is all about 🎉 💟 It has been a fantastic week of movement, memories and meaningful connection, and we cannot wait to do it all again soon 😊🎈
