An update from Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust

WANTAGE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL UPDATE ⚠️

We've started on a six-month project to refurbish the ground floor of Wantage Community Hospital. FAQ's below!

The hospital remains open throughout the project, with many clinics running daily, the building works will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption for patients and staff.

Some noise and disruption are inevitable during the works, but we'll make every effort to reduce this..

❓What’s happening to onsite car parking?
--------------------------------------------
The builders will need a small compound next to the hospital, so there'll be fewer parking spaces available during the works.

Remaining spaces will be prioritised for:
☑️ Drop-off and pick-up, inc volunteer car drivers and patient transport services.
☑️ Patients with mobility challenges, including Blue Badge holders
☑️ Community staff who visit patients at home and collect supplies from the hospital
☑️ Staff with mobility challenges, most of whom will be Blue Badge holders

We’re also encouraging staff to use public transport, cycling, or other alternatives where possible.

❓Will I still be seen in the same clinic?
----------------------------------------
We’ll do everything we can to minimise disruption to existing clinics - If the work affects your appointment, your clinical team will inform you in advance.
Please check your appointment letter carefully for any change of location.

If you’re unsure, you can:
Call the number provided in your appointment letter, or
Ask at Reception when you arrive.

If I have a problem, who should I contact?
-----------------------------------------------
For questions about your clinic appointment, contact your clinical team using the details in your appointment letter.
For general queries about the hospital refurbishment, please email: CSTransformation@oxfordhealth.nhs.uk

🚼 Is the maternity unit affected?
----------------
No. The maternity unit on the first floor is not part of the refurbishment.
The team is being kept informed about the work on the ground floor to help minimise any impact on people using maternity services.

It's World Mental Health Day - a day to talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters.🌍💜

This year the theme is ‘overwhelm’. Many of us are feeling overwhelmed by global events and what can feel like non-stop negative news.

It’s okay to feel this way and it’s okay to ask for help, no matter what you are going through.

Take time today to start a conversation with a friend about what good mental health means to you.💜

🎉 Only a few weeks to go until Alfredfest! 🎉

Sunday 26th October 2025

It’s nearly time for Alfredfest to take over Wantage, and we’re excited to share the full programme of events with you!

Here is the digital brochure so you can start planning your weekend. (Also available to download from the Town Council website and Love Wantage website). A printed version will also be available before the event and throughout the festival weekend.

As we're expecting visitors from outside the area, we’ve also created a handy event map to highlight the key locations and activities taking place across Wantage.

This is a celebration for everyone - honouring Wantage’s famous King Alfred the Great, and we’d love your help spreading the word.

📅 Save the date, tell your friends, family, and colleagues, and get ready for a fantastic weekend in the heart of Wantage!

Golden Services Care

Golden Services was started in 2012 by Pat Morgan. Pat has worked in the care sector since leaving school; progressing from support worker all the way up to registered manager for a number of other domiciliary companies over the years. Eventually she took the plunge into starting up her own home care company that has since developed and grown to cover the Wantage, Grove and Didcot areas. Since it's conception Golden Services has worked hard to build a reputation for providing outstanding care.

With the hard work and dedication of our support workers we are able to support members of our local community to remain living safely in their own homes and to maintain the dignity and respect they deserve.

Our commitment to care is reflected in our Care Quality Commission reports in which we have achieved an Outstanding in care on three separate occasions. This is an amazing achievement and a direct testament to the diligence and compassion of our staff.

As a company we are constantly working to improve our standards and support our staff to reach their full potential. We have a gold accreditation from Investor in People which recognises our leadership, support of staff and plans for improvements.
