MENS SKIN PROBLEMS AND CONCERNS 🧔🏻‍♂️

Men often have specific skincare concerns caused by higher levels of testosterone within the body. The presence of androgens typically results in:
• Thick, rough, oily skin, with large pores.
• Deep wrinkles.
• Acne & congestion.
• Pigmentation & uneven skin.
• Ingrown hairs.

TESTOSTERONE:
The levels of testosterone in the body affects the skin. Other than having facial hair, men tend to have thicker and oilier skin. On average, men have 20% thicker skin than women. As such, signs of ageing in men generally show up as deep creases and wrinkles instead of fine lines.

COLLAGEN:
Men’s skin contains more collagen and has a firmer appearance. Collagen depletes at a more steady pace for men whereas women’s collagen thins more dramatically after menopause.

SHAVING:
Thicker skin and facial hair is a risky combination because it can lead to painful ingrown hairs. This is also aggravated by shaving, which can result in rashes and razor burns - there are a host of issues to look out for.
Careful shaving is important, especially for those with sensitive skin. When shaving, never use a blunt razor and always use plenty of shaving cream or foam. Otherwise cuts and bumps will be inevitable. Shave in the direction the hair grows - never against it. IPL is a great way to remove unwanted hair on the body.

OIL:
Testosterone increases sebum production so men have oilier skin. Oil can often become trapped under beards and clogged in pores, so men are more prone to inflammation and breakouts. Men have larger pores so there is also greater chance they will get clogged up.
Regular cleansing is essential to avoid a buildup of unnecessary sebum and debris.

PIGMENTATION:
Though not shaving is an option, this can sometimes lead to pigmentation issues. A beard can block full coverage of SPF on the face. Men should always use lighter moisturisers.
Male and female skin differ so they need a different approach to skincare. Everyone should always cleanse, use daily SPF and have regular exfoliation.

Hi everyone, I’m Sian and I wanted to reintroduce myself as it’s been a while and have recently had some new followers on here.

I’ve been in the beauty industry for 32 years and seen many changes over this time with treatments evolving, exciting new ways of helping clients with many skin concerns.
I trained at Steiner Beauty School in Mayfair with CIBTAC & CIDESCO qualifications and was awarded student of the year, which I was very proud of 🤩
I started my career in a salon in Watford where I gained a wealth of knowledge doing a huge amount of electrolysis for hair removal at 20, I moved to Hanbury Manor hotel where I worked in the health club at 21 as a senior therapist which I loved.
( Still good friends with the fabulous girls I worked with, you know who your are 🤗 )
I was lucky to be sent on a course with Sterex for Thread Vein & Skin Tag Removal, being passionate about electrolysis and you had to be doing treatments for at least 3years before attending.
To this day I still have clients from Hanbury who saw me get married, have my daughters and then became self employed where I visited clients as a mobile therapist.
In 2015 I went to work for a nurse in Bishops Stortford where i trained in IPL, Cosmeceutical skincare, Dermal Needling, Dermaplaning and other aesthetic treatments.
I opened my first clinic in 2018 in Hertford where my clientele grew and became very loyal clients and friends over 6 years. In December 2024 I relocated my clinic to Ware where I currently am, I have a lovely room on the ground floor in The Good Therapy Clinic, which all my clients seem to love coming to.

I feel very blessed that I chose a career where I can help all ages feel confident, happy, relaxed and grateful for my expertise, i love getting to know my clients and build that rapport, it really is rewarding 🥰

I also became a Nanny in November to my gorgeous grandson Leonardo, who is a bundle of joy 🩵
