It was a pleasure to once again deliver our Mini Medics First Aid course to the year 6 students of St Mary's Catholic Primary School Swanage. Taught only by serving Paramedics and 999 staff that do the job ensures only the best possible knowledge sharing and skills are taught to our next generation of lifesavers. The CPR demonstrated was genuinely spot on, and I’d be happy to have them work alongside me on an Ambulance or help in an emergency.

Recognising the signs of heat stroke is crucial for prompt intervention and seeking medical help. Here are some common signs to watch out for:

1️⃣ High body temperature: A body temperature of (104°F) 40°C or higher is a significant indicator of heat stroke.

2️⃣ Altered mental state: Confusion, disorientation, dizziness, or even loss of consciousness can occur.

3️⃣ Hot, dry skin: Unlike heat exhaustion, where the skin is usually moist, in heat stroke, the skin may feel hot and dry to the touch.

4️⃣ Rapid heartbeat: The heart rate may become rapid and strong as the body tries to cool down.

5️⃣ Headache and nausea: Intense headaches and feelings of nausea or vomiting can accompany heat stroke.

6️⃣ Rapid, shallow breathing: Breathing may become rapid and shallow due to the body’s response to overheating.

7️⃣ Muscle cramps or weakness: Muscle cramps or weakness in the arms, legs, or abdomen may occur.

If you or someone around you experience these symptoms, it’s important to take immediate action. Move to a cool place, drink water or a sports drink, and seek medical assistance right away. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and early intervention can significantly improve outcomes.

Celebrating ten years of Swanage Community Defibrillator Partnership which has grown significantly in that time. Providing life saving Public Access Defibrillators to the community of Purbeck and beyond thanks to generous donations and some fantastic fundraising. A true reflection of what partnership working can achieve and continues to do. It is so important that these devices are not just a photo opportunity, but regularly maintained and serviced to ensure they are always rescue ready should they be needed. This includes registering the device so that the Ambulance service know about its existence.

💚Exciting Update from Swanage Community Defibrillator Partnership!💚

We're thrilled to announce that we've successfully upgraded the first of four public access defibrillators as part of our extensive replacement programme!

As we celebrate our tenth anniversary this year, we're committed to ensuring that our community has access to the best life-saving equipment available.

The time has come to replace both our oldest defibrillators and many of the cabinets that have served us well but have reached the end of their operational life. A huge thank you to Swanage Sparks Ltd for their incredible support in removing the old device and installing a brand-new cabinet customised for SCDP by Purbeck Media Group. This next-generation cabinet boasts the highest IP rating, ensuring our new AED is well-protected and ready for use when needed most.

This vital upgrade comes with a significant financial cost, but we are proud to say it is made possible through the generous donations and fundraising efforts from residents, businesses, and visitors of Purbeck.

In our tenth anniversary year, we have set an ambitious goal to raise £10,000 for 10 years to fund the replacement of our oldest defibrillators and cabinets. If you would like to support our vital scheme for public access defibrillators across Purbeck, we would love to hear from you!

The session highlights the life-saving potential of early defibrillation, the alarming statistics surrounding cardiac arrest survival, and how strategic placement of AEDs in everyday public places—such as schools, gyms, shopping centres, and community centres can bridge crucial response time gaps before the emergency services arrive.

The speakers also discuss how community sites can act as vital touchpoints for public training, awareness, and preparedness.
