I spent weeks making a rainbow dragon costume for Pride. But every time I thought about going this year, something didn’t feel right.

I told myself it was just the political climate — that it mattered more than ever to show up. I pushed through, thinking the day itself would bring back the joy.

This morning, I got up early, did my rainbow makeup… and when the rest of my family weren't on tip form, I decided to bow out. I’d even said last year we might need a break.

Following your gut can feel like failure, like letting people down, but sometimes it’s self-preservation in disguise. I don't know which this is yet, and I still fully support everyone marching in my county today, just at a distance.

So here’s the makeup that I only wore at home. Which shot is your favourite? 🌈💜

Work on my Pride jacket continues in between family day trips, medical appointments, work, all the things.

I'd love to hear how your summer is going so far? It's full on and lovely to have the kids around but also quite intense and isolating in some ways.

Life is so full of contradictions.

Staying creative for myself during school holidays can be tough when most of my energy goes into coming up with ideas to keep them occupied.

Yesterday, I stole their supplies for a change and coloured this little rainbow owl. I feel like he needs some sort of origin story. I don't know why he has ended up looking so sad!

Today, I am the rainbow. 🌈
I feel like walking joy in this dress. It gives me dopamine dressing with enough of a black undercurrent to feed my goth soul.

I've been quietly off here for a little while, taking time to focus on my health. But the creative urge hasn’t gone anywhere—just shifted into quieter ways of noticing.

Everyday life still hands me rainbows. In snail trails and sandwich seeds, cheeky warning signs, scattered petals, strange lions, and hospital signs that accidentally raise a smile. The colour is still here. So am I.

If you enjoy this kind of thing, I’m hoping to check in weekly(ish) with a little rainbow round-up from the world around me. Not curated or posed—just the bright, weird, wonderful things that remind me to keep going.

Because even when things feel hard… there’s still joy in the ordinary.
There’s still colour.
There’s still something worth noticing.
