🎳 Strike Up the Fun at Henford House!

Today was time for our Skittles Competition! 😄

Laughter echoed down the halls as residents showed off their aim (and a little friendly rivalry!). We were delighted to be supported by our treasured volunteer Jonathon, whose encouragement and enthusiasm made the day even brighter.

And for a special treat – Chef Nathan swapped his apron for a bowling ball, joining the fun out of the kitchen! Turns out, he's just as good at knocking down pins as he is at whipping up our delicious meals. 🍽️➡️🎳

From creativity to movement and gentle connection — today was full of smiles and meaningful moments!

🧘‍♀️ Individual Healing Touch with Marta brought calm, presence and soothing care to residents who needed a little extra attention and warmth.

🎳 Senior Games & Exercises – lots of laughs and gentle fun as we played adapted bowling, ball tossing, and movement activities that everyone could enjoy while seated.

🎨 Pottery Morning – hands were busy and hearts full as our residents painted and shaped clay in a therapeutic, creative session that encouraged expression and pride.

These moments of joy and connection are what make Henford House feel like home. 💛

🐴✨ A Truly Magical Day at Henford House! ✨🐴

It was one of those unforgettable days where joy filled every hallway and room. We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming two very special guests—Daisy and Sugar, the amazing Therapy Shetland Ponies from A Million Memories Pony Parties and Therapy! 💖

At Henford House, it’s so important to us that every resident gets to experience joy, connection, and moments that enrich their lives. When our residents can’t get out to explore the world, we bring the world to them—and Daisy and Sugar were more than happy to trot right in (yes, they even took the lift upstairs like true professionals).

For our lovely resident Carol, this was a dream come true—she’d never touched a horse before and said it was something she had always wished for. Another resident was so touched by the visit that it brought back cherished memories and even a few tears. It was truly heartwarming to witness how much joy and emotion these gentle ponies brought with them.

Of course, our staff made sure Daisy and Sugar were properly thanked—with lots of cuddles and a well-deserved crunchy carrot from Chef Nathan! 🥕

A huge thank you to Daisy, Sugar and tgeir fabulous keepers for making this day so special for everyone.

Staying Cool & Hydrated at Henford House! 🥤🍉🌿

This week, our residents beat the heat with a fun and refreshing hydration tasting session! From tangy fruit juices to vibrant green smoothies, we sampled a rainbow of flavours — and had plenty of laughs (and a few puckered faces) along the way!

🥇 Surprise hit of the day? A deliciously zesty green smoothie with spirulina!
😬 Least loved? Sorry, pomegranate — you didn’t win many fans this time!

Alongside the tastings, we had some great chats about just how important it is to stay hydrated in warm weather, especially for our older adults. It doesn’t always have to be plain water — juices, smoothies, and even juicy fruits can all help keep hydration levels up. 🍓🍍🍋

🎾🍓 Wimbledon Fun Across Our Homes 🎾🥂

Residents and patients across the country had a delightful time following the annual Wimbledon tennis tournaments.

Many homes and hospitals were decorated with themed flags and banners, as residents and patients engaged in a range of enjoyable activities, including mini tennis championships, quizzes and interactive sessions.

The big tennis enthusiasts were thrilled to watch the famous matches virtually from the comfort of their armchairs and to join the afternoon tea parties with strawberries and cream, Pimm’s and champagne.

Henford was filled with extra joy (and a lot more giggles!) this week as our wonderful toddler group returned — officially lowering the average age in the best way possible!

From musical instruments to toys and tiny high-fives, the room was bursting with smiles, laughter, and heartwarming connections. These little visitors brought pure sunshine to our residents’ day, and it’s safe to say the feeling was mutual 💫

🎉 Farley Gardens is Now Open 🎉

Our new luxury care home in has opened its doors in style, with a Grand Opening performed by the Worshipful Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell, Councillor Janet Cochrane, in front of invited guests from the local community.

Our CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, and Senior General Manager, Simona Cioinac, hosted the event and invited guests to view the stunning new 62-bed care home, which is now open and welcoming its first residents.

The home has been designed with residents’ comfort in mind and the team at Farley Gardens will offer residential support, respite stays and specialised dementia care, all delivered by a dedicated and passionate team of trained professionals.

🌟 A Day to Remember at Longleat! 🌟

This week, a group of our lovely residents from Henford House were invited to be part of something truly special — the creation and burial of a Time Capsule at the magnificent Longleat Estate! 💌🕰️

In the lead-up to the big day, our residents lovingly contributed personal notes, thumbprints, and even included a snippet about life at Henford House — including this week's delicious menu (because who doesn’t love a peek into our tasty world! 😋).

We set off on our adventure — just a 10-minute drive away — in our trusty minibus and car, full of excitement. Upon arrival, we were welcomed like royalty by the fabulous Longleat team... and surprise — a TV documentary crew was filming the whole thing! 🎥👀

We had the honour of meeting the mayor and several distinguished guests, and then came a truly magical moment — the arrival of the brand-new Longleat bus, driven by none other than Dave the Legend! 🚍🎖️ Imagine our delight when we found out Dave was once the maintenance man right here at Henford House — what a reunion!

After a scenic ride and a smooth car es**rt, we arrived at the brand-new Hippo House 🦛💦 where we were greeted by none other than Lord and Lady Bath themselves. The hippos were breathtaking — currently just four, with hopes for a growing family through Longleat's brilliant conservation work.

We then gathered to witness the symbolic burying of the Time Capsule, filled with heartfelt messages and treasures from all attendees. 💖

To top it all off, we were treated to a delicious supper and a glass of bubbly to celebrate an unforgettable day. 🥂🍽️

✨ Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to the entire Longleat team, the wonderful Lord and Lady Bath, and of course, Dave the Legend. Our residents are still buzzing with joy, and we can’t wait to return one day and hopefully meet some baby hippos!

🎉 Hall Park Celebrates Outstanding CQC Rating 🎉

We’re delighted to share that Hall Park Care Home in passed a recent Care Quality Commission inspection with ‘Outstanding’ ratings - the best possible ratings the home can achieve – across the board, after being praised for operating a safe, effective, responsive, caring and well-led service.

Jodie Rakhra, General Manager at the home said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Hall Park has been rated ‘Outstanding’ following the CQC’s latest inspection. It is fantastic to have the hard work and dedication of everyone here recognised. Our staff are all superstars, everyone supports each other and pulls together. I’m so proud of our team, our residents and our home.”

Our CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, visited Hall Park to congratulate Jodie and her team on the home’s Outstanding ratings and award every member of staff a £500 voucher to celebrate their achievement.

He commented: “Hall Park is a fantastic home delivering exceptional care to its residents, I couldn’t be prouder of Jodie and every single member of staff here. I am delighted to be here today to congratulate everyone personally, meet the residents and chat to the team about their wonderful work.”

A Musical Afternoon to Remember! 🎤✨

What a wonderful time we had at Henford House this week, as the sounds of timeless classics filled the air! 💃🕺

Our residents were all smiles as they sang along to beloved tunes from years gone by — from toe-tapping hits to heartfelt ballads, every note brought back beautiful memories. ❤️

There was laughter, clapping, and even a few happy tears as conversations sparked about the original artists and the stories behind the songs. 🎼📻

A few lucky residents were even serenaded, making the day feel truly special! 🎙️🌟

Music really is a powerful thing — and thus week it brought joy, connection, and a touch of magic to everyone here.

🐝🍯 What a Buzz! 🐝🍯

As part of our Live Virtual Events programme, residents and patients across the country enjoyed a fascinating virtual talk yesterday, led by expert beekeeper Julia Young, on The Wonderful World of Bees.

Everyone was absolutely captivated by her stories – from the intricate waggle dance to the royal drama of bee regicide. Who knew the life of a honeybee could be so exciting?

It was a great opportunity to learn more about nature, hives and the extraordinary teamwork of bees.

To make things even more exciting, the talented chefs at our homes prepared delicious themed treats and refreshments - including honey sandwiches, honey flapjacks and tea sweetened with local honey.

Lindum House Care Home in recently welcomed local heroes from the fire brigade for a fantastic ‘Coffee with a Firefighter’ event.

Residents, colleagues and visitors enjoyed chatting with the firefighters, learning more about their daily duties and hearing fascinating stories from the local community – all over cups of freshly brewed tea and coffee.

Head Chef Matt prepared a mouth-watering selection of cupcakes especially for the occasion.

Adding to the fun, children from Safe 'n' Sound Nursery also joined in, bringing even more smiles and excitement to the day.

🎉 Exciting News from Barchester 🎉

We’re thrilled to share that Natasha Lazovic, Managing Director of Barchester’s South Division, has been promoted to our Executive Board as Chief Operating Officer.

The news came just as Natasha celebrated an incredible 11 years with Barchester – a fitting milestone for such a well-deserved recognition.

A trained nurse, Natasha first came to the UK from Serbia in 1994. She joined Barchester in May 2014 as Regional Director leading 10 homes, which then doubled to 20 as Senior Regional Director. As Managing Director, Natasha was in charge of 87 care homes across the South.

With Natasha stepping into her COO role, we’re also announcing a restructure of the South Division. It will now form tow new, more focused regions: led by Duncan Edwards who becomes Managing Director of the South West Division and Michelle Macadangdang who is promoted to Managing Director of the South East Division.

Commenting on her new role, Natasha said: “It has been my absolute privilege to be Managing Director of the South division, I have loved working with each and every one of my homes but I move onto my new position happy in the knowledge that Michelle and Duncan with be excellent new Managing Directors for their respective divisions. I am eager to see what my new role brings, I look forward to getting to know all of the teams, patients and residents in my new homes and hospitals across the country.”
