When people first visit us the first thing they usually say is
“Oh wow, I didn’t expect it to be like this.”

Our hair salon and Trichology Clinic is tucked away on the first floor within in the Cheshire countryside, surrounded by fields, with free parking right outside and everything done by appointment only so it always feels calm, private and unhurried.

Hair Story was never meant to be a busy high street salon and it’s probably not what you’d call a trendyInstagram salon. There are no neon signs, no staged photo corners and we’re definitely not going to ask you to pose for pictures, that’s just not us.

Our space is classy, elegant, warm and welcoming. Somewhere you can sit with a coffee, look out over the fields and just relax while we take care of your hair because for us, it’s never been about the showy side of the industry. It’s about making you feel special, understood and confident.

Alongside the colour, extensions and transformations you see online, a huge part of what we do here is trichology, helping you understand why your hair is thinning, shedding or changing and what we can actually do about it.

Sometimes the answer is in the hair but very often it starts with the scalp, health and what’s happening inside the body so when you come to Hair Story you’re not just coming for a quick appointment. You’re sitting with a small team who genuinely care, who take the time to listen, look properly at your scalp and hair and help you move forward with the right plan.

And for us there’s nothing better than seeing someone walk in worried about their hair and leave feeling hopeful again. 💛

“Tell me your hair routine” is one of the things I ask during a trichology consultation.

Not because there’s one perfect routine but because there is so much information online now. Social media is full of hair trends and it can be really confusing to know what’s actually helpful and what might be doing more harm than good.

The truth is, healthy hair care doesn’t have to be complicated. A few simple habits can make a big difference to the condition of your hair and scalp.

Always wash twice
The first shampoo removes product, oil and build up from the scalp. The second cleans the scalp and hair properly so the ingredients in your shampoo can do their job.

Always use conditioner
No matter what your hair type is. Conditioner helps smooth the cuticle, add moisture, reduce friction and protect the hair from breakage when brushing or styling.

Detangle when wet, brush when dry
Hair is more fragile when wet, so use a wide tooth comb or tangle teaser gently to remove knots. Once dry, brushing helps distribute natural oils and keep hair looking smooth and healthy.

Always use a heat protector
Even when you’re just blow drying, heat protectors help create a barrier between your hair and the heat, reducing damage over time.

Always blast dry the roots and scalp
Leaving the scalp damp for long periods can cause scalp irritation and imbalance. Drying the roots helps maintain a healthier scalp environment. Letting hair dry naturally isn’t always the best option, especially in cooler weather. Hair is more vulnerable when wet and prolonged dampness can stress both the hair fibre and scalp so avoid sleeping with wet hair too.

Hair care doesn’t have to be complicated or follow every trend you see online. Often, the simple habits done consistently make the biggest difference. And if you’re ever unsure about what routine is right for your hair or scalp, that’s exactly what we look at together during a consultation.

Thank You to everyone who has walked through our doors, trusted us with your hair, your stories and often your vulnerability. Your loyalty and support are the heart of Hair Story.

To our friends, family and followers who take the time to like, comment, share, or hype us up online you’re part of this too. We see you and we couldn’t do it without you. We are a small, local business trying to stay afloat in an industry that isn’t always kind. Hairdressing has changed. The costs are higher, the competition is louder and keeping a business running around school pick ups and family life is no small feat.

Once again, we’ve been overwhelmed by the love and generosity this time of year brings. The gifts, the cards, the Prosecco for the end of the day (never before 😄). And to those who drop treats in throughout the year, it never goes unnoticed. Whether it’s chocolates, coffee, biscuits, or a sausage roll, thank you. It all means more than you know.

We even received a poem from one of our clients this year. It was so touching that when she read it out to me and Emma in the salon on our last day we both cried. It hit every emotion at once, it made us laugh and cry at the same time. We will treasure it always.

This year also brought change within our little salon family. We said goodbye to Hannah which was heartbreaking to lose her from the diary, but we haven’t lost her from our lives. Still our friend, always loved. And we gained a new stylist, Beckii, who has stepped in with energy, kindness and talent, and fitted right into the chaos like she was always meant to be here. And that says a lot about who we are. We build friendships that last far beyond the salon chair.

We are officially taking a well deserved break with our families and we’ll be back open on the 6th January. But for now, the phone is off, the diary is closed and we are proudly, unapologetically, out of office.

To each and every one of you, I appreciate you more than I can put into words. Thank you for choosing us, rooting for us and reminding us why we do what we do.
