Self-abuse ā the silent killer
How aware are you of what you think about yourself? What is your opinion of you? If someone asked you who you are, what would you say? And I donāt mean your name or your age ā I mean, who are you really?
For example, if I were asked this, Iād say:
Iām a woman who comes alive in nature, who loves sunshine and water. Someone who listens to her body, which is why I practise yoga every day. Someone who doesnāt give up, who can say sorry ā because yes, sometimes I make mistakes. Someone who isnāt afraid to own who she is or where sheās been⦠and there are plenty of stories there. But what doesnāt kill you really does make you stronger.
And in just a few sentences, you can probably tell that life hasnāt always been easy on me ā yet thereās not a single negative word in how I describe myself. You might even sense confidence, and a positive way of looking at things.
Now, how would you describe yourself if someone asked you the same question ā who are you?
Letās turn this into something practical you can actually do. Take a piece of paper, write down the question, and answer it. Honestly. Not with forced positivity or copying nice-sounding lines ā just you. Youāre the only one who will see it, so give yourself enough respect to be real about what you think of yourself.
Then read it back⦠and underline every negative word, every judgement.
And this is important ā donāt start attacking yourself for it. This is simply where you are right now. It doesnāt have to stay this way. Thatās exactly why youāre doing this.
So⦠youāve underlined those words. Now pause and notice how you feel. What kind of energy does it carry? Does it pull you down? Make you sad? Frustrated? Angry? Donāt overthink it ā just observe what comes up. And write down every feeling, every thought.
Yeah⦠a bit uncomfortable, isnāt it?
Now you can see just how much youāve been hurting yourself. But hereās the thing ā you can stop it. Right here, right now. You can choose for this to end. You can feel the kind of energy you create when you see yourself this way⦠and the choice to change it is entirely yours.
Now shift it.
Write down everything you love about yourself. Everything you enjoy doing. Everything that lifts you up.
Mine would look something like this:
I love floating on the surface of the sea, feeling the sun warming my face. Walking through the forest, listening to the birdsā songs. Waking up through my morning yoga and starting the day feeling fresh and alive.
Write down everything that comes to mind ā and then notice how you feel afterwards. The energy is completely different, isnāt it? And itās okay if you only wrote a couple of sentences at first. Thereās more to come.
Please remember ā everything is energy. Every thought, every word, every action creates something, shifts something. And how you work with that⦠is up to you.
What I really want you to see is this: itās your choice. How you feel. What you think about yourself. And maybe⦠just maybe⦠itās time to finally choose you.
Iāll continue tomorrow ā I hope youāll stay with me.
