Today has been National Teddy Bear Day.

To mark the occasion we dressed our Jolly Trolley with Teddy Bears, filled it with treats and toured our home doing a Winnie the Pooh trivia quiz.

There’s nothing cuter than a Teddy Bear, and while we all have our favourites and our own stories about them to tell, you have to admit Winnie the Pooh is one of the cutest and possibly the most famous.

In the words of Winnie the Pooh himself, "Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”

Another lovely week ahead here at Gainsborough House.

As well as our weekly Art and Sport Therapy it’s Music Therapy week and Ian will be here on Thursday at 2pm.

Tomorrow is World Teddy Bear day and we are having a tea party. (no need to go down to the woods, it’s right here at Gainsborough House) We’ve also got Zoolab visiting on Friday and chocolate tasting on Saturday! Inbetween there’s lots of time for person centred activities where well encouraging residents to do the things they choose to do.

What’s not to love?!

Residents and their families thoroughly enjoyed a special performance from Caldo Brass - a brass quintet ensemble this afternoon.

Everyone clapped and sang along to all the popular tunes they played. We’ve got quite a few brass lovers here at Gainsborough House so this was a really wonderful afternoon for them.

It was Wildlife day yesterday and to mark the occasion we had a visit from John the Owlman.

John shared his wisdom around the beautiful Owls that he brought in and also introduced us to his pet Skunk called Chrissy.

Residents, their family, and our team members were all captivated by the beauty of these wonderful and extremely majestic examples of British wildlife. Although John’s Owls are tame and highly trained, in the wild they are much more elusive.

There are five regularly breeding owl species in Britain: the Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Little Owl, Long-eared Owl, and Short-eared Owl. While four are native, the Little Owl was introduced from Europe in the late 1800s. Other species, like the Snowy and Eurasian Eagle-owls, are very rare visitors.

Residents were very busy enjoying some art therapy with our care team yesterday. They took their time and demonstrated great care adding colours and keeping within the lines s d enjoyed chatting while they worked.

We have weekly Art Therapy classes as part of our dementia care strategy, which are run by Art Therapist Jane Farelly and supported by our care teams. It was great to see residents getting some practise in yesterday. Art Therapy can so beneficial in helping residents to socialise, build confidence, develop fine motor skills, a sense of achievement, and even sometimes remembering skills they once had. A beautiful piece of art as the end result is a bonus!

Today we celebrated World Coconut Day.

We learned some interesting facts about coconuts, sampled different products that contain coconut, and we also adapted a coconut shy enabling residents to bowl using coconuts instead of a ball!

It was tasty and fun at the same time!

Doll Therapy proved popular today and a great deal of emotional stimulation was achieved.

Doll therapy in dementia care uses lifelike dolls or soft toy animals to help promote relaxation, reduce distress, and improve the well-being of people living with dementia.

By engaging nurturing instincts, dolls can provide comfort, foster communication, and offer a renewed sense of purpose.

You can see from the photos just how engaged our residents were. It was so lovely to see.

Our wonderful team members on Renoir created a surprise anniversary celebration for one of our new residents and his wife.

A table for two, hearts, wine, a rose, cards, and table decorations set the scene for this lovely anniversary lunch.
