Most people pay more attention to maintaining their car than they do to maintaining their body.

Yes, car maintenance is important, but you can always buy another car.

However, you'll only ever have one body to last a lifetime, so it makes sense to look after it.

There are dozens and dozens of gyms, programs and classes around Warrington, which is great if that's what you enjoy (they're catching up with barbershops and nail bars now πŸ™„πŸ˜…).

Resistance training isn't just about looking 'buff'. It's a vital part of self-care are we age.

It helps maintain strength, mobility, posture and bone density.

However, it's important to do it correctly and to be consistent and progressive in your training.

That's where I come in.....

Nothing can ensure that quite like working with a personal trainer.

I have my own private studio in WA5. I don't share with other PT's and I don't have any members, so your sessions will always be completely private.

Don't just plod or jog on a treadmill. Try something more interesting and beneficial instead.

🟒 set the speed to what feels like a fairly brisk walk.

🟒 walk for 5 minutes with the treadmill flat.

🟒 after 5 minutes, add 1 to the incline

🟒 continue to add 1 to the incline every minute.

🟒 important... NO HOLDING ON!

🟒 when you've reached the highest incline you can manage, press the 'cooldown' button and walk until the treadmill stops.

🟒 see how high you can get the incline before you can't go any higher....the target is maximum incline (usually 15 on most treadmills)

🟒 when you can get to maximum incline, slightly increase the speed next time.

The whole thing will take no more than 20 minutes, plus cooldown.

"Why don't you have any weight machines?"

Someone asked me that recently.

The answer is that I don't NEED any weight machines.

Free weights are vastly more versatile than machines that are designed to do just one exercise.

Free weights will engage more muscles because your body is having to stabilise itself as you perform each exercise.

You're not just pushing or pulling against a weight stack in a fixed range of motion like you are with a machine....YOU are having to control the weight in every direction.

It's a rather special anniversary today....it's 20 years to the day since I started working at 'Fitness First' as a fitn...

It's a rather special anniversary today....it's 20 years to the day since I started working at 'Fitness First' as a fitness instructor and began my journey in the fitness industry.

I'd been made redundant the year before on the back of the Rover Longbridge closure.

I knew that I wanted a new direction, so I took advantage of the training being offered to do my CYQ Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification.

I was 42 at the time and was by far the oldest person on the course. I was a bit worried about that initially, but it turned out to be an advantage.

I passed my final exam on Saturday 7th of January, then wondered what the hell I was going to do next.

I decided to phone the only local gym I could think of, 'Fitness First' on Monday, had an interview on Tuesday and started work on Wednesday.

I was SO lucky....the stars really did align for me.

20 years (and several qualifications) later, I've had my own studio for the last 13 years and I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

I'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to the staff, gym members and clients who I've met and worked with on the way 😊
