88% of PANS/PANDAS cases are sudden onset (symptoms ramping up within three days), but it is important to note not ALL cases of PANS & PANDAS are sudden onset.

In other cases, a more gradual onset is noted. Even with rapid onset of PANS/PANDAS, sometimes milder symptoms were present in the weeks to months before the more concerning symptoms suddenly appeared.

Researchers from King's College London want to interview children and young people with pre-existing mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions and their caregivers to help inform what we can do to protect and support young people's mental health.

The purpose of the project is to understand the mental health experiences during the pandemic and the potential long-term consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in young people with pre-existing mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions and their caregivers.

Pre-existing mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions refers to young people who prior to the pandemic, already had difficulties with depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD, or other mental health or neurodevelopmental conditions.
