The council and local partners are encouraging residents to get their blood pressure checked for free this April by attending one of several free Blood Pressure Drop‑In sessions taking place across the borough.

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, which means many people may be living with it without knowing. Across the UK, millions of adults are thought to have high blood pressure without a diagnosis, increasing their risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney disease. Locally, it is estimated that around one in three adults in Warrington may have undiagnosed high blood pressure.

These drop‑in events aim to reach residents who may have undiagnosed high blood pressure, so they can access the support and treatment needed to bring it under control. That might mean making healthy lifestyle changes such as eating a balanced diet, reducing salt intake, being more physically active, or starting medication where appropriate.

Residents can drop in to one of the sessions to have a blood pressure test quickly and free of charge.

If you can’t make any of the sessions blood pressure checks are also available at most pharmacies and through your local GP surgery as part of an NHS Health Check, which is offered to adults aged 40 to 74.

Residents can also buy low‑cost blood pressure monitors, starting from around £20, from pharmacies or online, making it easy to check blood pressure at home or while out and about.

Cabinet member for health, wellbeing and social care, Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, said: “High blood pressure can often go unnoticed, but it can have serious consequences if left untreated. I would encourage residents, particularly those aged over 40, to attend one of the many blood pressures drop sessions taking place this month to get their blood pressure checked.

“It’s also worth considering purchasing a home blood pressure monitor so you can keep an eye on your numbers at home, helping you to take control of your health.”
