If you’re 40–74, the NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your heart and blood vessels, usually every five years. It can spot risks for heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and kidney disease before symptoms appear.

The check takes 20–30 minutes and includes measurements, blood pressure, cholesterol, and sometimes blood sugar tests. You’ll get your results, cardiovascular risk score, and heart age, plus advice on staying healthy.

If you’re eligible but haven’t been invited, contact Reception to book your NHS Health Check.❤️

High blood pressure affects 1 in 4 adults in the UK and is known as the “silent killer” because it often has no symptoms. Left unchecked, it can lead to heart disease, stroke, kidney problems, and dementia – but the good news is it’s largely preventable.

The first step? Know your numbers. You can check your blood pressure at your GP, local pharmacy, or at home with a monitor.

Lifestyle changes can make a huge difference:
• Eat healthy – lots of fruits, vegetables, fibre, and water; limit processed and salty foods.
• Reduce alcohol – excess drinking raises blood pressure.
• Stop smoking – one of the most effective ways to protect your health.
• Exercise – any activity helps, and try to reduce long periods of sitting.

Even small changes can have a big impact on your heart, brain, and kidneys. âś…

If your blood pressure is healthy, encourage friends and family to check theirs too.

🩺 Know Your Numbers Week – 8–14 September 2025 🩺

⚕️ High blood pressure, often called the “silent killer,” usually has no obvious symptoms — yet it is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems.

📊 Regularly checking your blood pressure is one of the most important steps you can take for your long-term health. Small lifestyle changes such as improving your diet, increasing activity, and reducing salt can make a significant difference.

Emergency Alerts Test – Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm

What to know:
The UK Government will be running a test of the Emergency Alerts system at 3 pm on Sunday 7 September.

Phones and tablets that are compatible will emit a loud siren-like sound and vibrate, even if on silent.

You do not need to take any action during the alert — it's just a test.

This system is designed to warn you of local dangers like severe weather or other emergencies.

Important advice for those at risk of coercive control or domestic abuse: If you’re caring for someone who has a concealed phone or you're in a situation where unexpected alerts could cause harm, it’s vital to be aware and prepared.

Want to opt out?
You can turn off the Emergency Alerts for your device via this official page: gov.uk/alerts/opting-out

Need support or guidance? Leeds Women’s Aid offers tailored information and help on this:
leedswomensaid.co.uk/emergency-alert-test-sunday-7-september-2025

Why it's important:
Regular testing keeps the system reliable in real emergencies, when lives may depend on it.

Stay informed, stay safe.
