It’s World Health Day🌎 let’s talk stress.

Not the kind you power through…The kind your body holds onto.

Clenched jaws. Lifted shoulders. Holding your breath without even realizing it. All of it impacts your nervous system.

The Alexander Technique helps you become aware of those patterns—and gently change them.

Because better health isn’t always about doing more…sometimes it starts with doing less.

Ever notice how exhausting travel can feel before you even get on the plane?

It’s not just the lines or the rush—it’s the way we carry ourselves through it. Tight shoulders, gripping hands, dragging luggage behind us… all adding unnecessary strain.

Heading out of town? Don’t take tension with you.

A few Alexander Technique reminders for smoother travel:
✨ Head balanced, not pulled forward
✨ Backpack evenly supported
✨ Elbow soft, instead of locked
✨ Arms soft, not bracing

Because travel should feel as good in your body as it does for your soul. ✈️✨

I really like the suggestion of trying sitting on a gym ball. I've recently been working with quite a few of my clients sitting on a balance disc. With a bit of hands on encouragement even people with tight sore backs can learn to let go of excessive muscular tension in the lower back and sit in a more balanced and upright way and it's got nothing to do with sitting up straight. It's about sitting with suppleness.

Good article about the benefits of walking naturally with an upright posture.

Medical experts now emphasize that the most critical factor in walking for health isn't speed or distance, it's an often-overlooked trait.

It was great teaching a workshop at Poulton Park GC today the basic principles of the Alexander Technique. People learnt that good posture is about balance and poise. One lady discovered that once she was using the support of the chair her lower back released, she then dropped her shoulders and her neck pain disappeared.
She no longer had to hold herself up to sit in the chair.

An interesting article on gait analysis. Whilst I don't analyse gait in a specialist sense, I do look at people's movements as a whole unit, what their habits are (believe me there are many!). Its true like the article says alot of people walk with their feet too close together which will affect balance and put a strain on the knees. I then go on to teach the basic fundamentals of walking - of how the foot works, balance and walking with more freedom and ease.

Walking speed is gaining traction as a vital sign, providing critical information about physical and mental health risks. Here’s when to get a gait analysis.

Spring has finally sprung, it's great to be back out in the garden. After a bit of weeding it was lovely to be able to lie down in semi-supine in the garden in the sunshine and listen to the birdsong, any stiffness in my back was soon gone.
This video explains why lying down in semi-supine can benefit lower back pain.
