There are many options we can use to treat joint pain. But the big question is why are you having joint pain, sometimes this is an easy enough question to answer and sometimes more difficult needing further investigation such as MRI’s/X-rays.
One way to treat joint pain is acupuncture and further electro acupuncture to give extra stimulation to those acupuncture points for maximum healing.

Lymphoedema management

There is no known cure for lymphoedema, however there are things you can do to prevent the condition worsening and helping symptoms.

🏃‍♀️Movement- Movement is key for any lymphatic issues, the lymph only moves through your body through movement, it doesn’t have its own pump unlike the circulatory system & the heart. This can be gentle exercise like walking, calf raises etc

📏Compression- Compression garments can be hugely beneficial for the management of lymphoedema but make sure to get fitted correctly for your body

🫐Diet- a healthy diet is going to support your body especially eating anti-inflammatory foods

👐🏽MLD- Manual lymphatic drainage can help support the lymphatic system aiding in removal of the extra fluid. The lymphatic system is vital for health & the immune system. Whilst lymphoedema is usually because of an impaired lymphatic system it is important to see a therapist who can use the correct techniques to support you.

What treatments can you have when you have a long term illness, disease or condition?

Firstly with any serious illness or medical condition we will need a signed letter from your GP or health care professional, giving consent they are happy for you to have treatment. (I will email this for you to have signed) Once we have this signed and they are happy, you can have your treatment as planned.

Acupuncture generally speaking can be used to help with a wide variety of long term conditions and illnesses. There are many research papers to show evidence how acupuncture can help with long term chronic pain and with cancer patients to help reduce pain often associated with treatment.

With massage & lymphatic drainage it can depend on your condition or illness. In some cases we wait a certain period of time after illness before these treatments can be used. However with your health care providers consent these time frames can sometimes be reduced.

It can be frustrating when you want to have a treatment done however your health must always come first.

As we head into holiday season, here’s some ways to help support your lymphatic system with flights, and reduced the dreaded bloat and swollen limbs
✈️Hydration- Drink plenty of water before and during your flight
✈️Movement- Get up and walk down the aisles as often as possible, calf raises whilst sitting to get the lymph pumping
✈️Diet- avoid processed foods including the food service mid flight as this contains a higher volume of salt
✈️Clothing- Avoid gym clothes that can restrict lymph flow and opt for loose clothing. Wear specific compression garments that aid lymph and circulation
✈️Lymphatic Drainage- schedule a lymphatic drainage massage 48hrs pre flight to make sure your lymphatic system is working at its most functional.

In Chinese medicine the liver ensures everything flows smoothly both physically & emotionally. When qi becomes stagnant it can cause bloating & acid reflux. You can also feel stressed and irritable, anger can also negatively affect and manifest in the liver.
The liver cleanses the blood; liver blood deficiency symptoms can include, indecisiveness, feeling insecure & anxious.
We can help strengthen liver qi by making sure we get to bed early asleep for 10pm so that you’re in a deep sleep during the livers most active hours 1-3am. The liver can then detox, cleanse the blood and aid your recovery.
Another way to strengthen liver qi is to eat foods such as garlic, turmeric, cherries & red meats.
Reducing stress and other unresolved emotions can aid the flow of liver qi, don’t let your emotions manifest into physical symptoms within the body.

Are you taking recovery serious? Training for a specific event, training for body/health goals? Recovery is such an important part of the journey that shouldn’t be overlooked. Over training and not allowing your body to recover between sessions can limit your results and impact training to your full potential.
So what can recovery look like? Recovery can be full rest days allowing a muscle group to repair before retraining. It could be active recovery such as walks, stretching sessions, mobility sessions or booking a sports massage to help your muscles recover quicker.
