Stethoscope tricks - replacing a lost hearing aid - Clinical Skills - Dr Gill
The stethoscope is a fantastic piece of equipment, not only does it allow you to listen to the patient's heart, lungs, bowels, and blood vessels, but there are also little tricks that can make your life as a doctor much easier:
Often, patients will have hearing issues, whether or not that is because they have forgotten hearing aids, damaged hearing aids, have low batteries or perhaps have not received the hearing aid yet. It is possible to use your stethoscope to overcome this. By placing the stethoscope into the ears of the patient who has difficulty hearing, you can speak into the stethoscope and allow them to overcome that hearing deficiency.
Using a stethoscope like this can be particularly useful in a busy A&E department, is it also helps to drown out some of the noise of the busy department, allowing the patient to hear you more clearly
