Did you know we can assess your frailty risk just by measuring your grip strength?
It sounds simple! but the science behind it is remarkable.

Grip strength acts as a proxy for overall upper body strength and muscle mass, both of which play a crucial role in metabolic health, function, and long-term independence. In physiotherapy, it's one of our most valuable clinical tools.

Frailty is a common concern among older adults, characterised by weakness, increased vulnerability, decreased physical function, and susceptibility to injury and grip strength is one of the earliest indicators we look for.

When muscle strength diminishes, physical activity tends to decline too. leading to reduced cardiovascular health, insulin resistance, and an increased risk of falls and injury.

The reassuring part? Frailty isn't inevitable. With the right support, exercise programme, and early intervention, grip strength can be improved at almost any age.

If you or a loved one has noticed difficulty with everyday tasks, opening jars, carrying bags, getting up from a chair, it may be worth getting assessed. That's exactly what we're here for.

Leaving the NHS wasn’t easy.

But neither is watching people miss out on the rehab they actually need.

We’re choosing a different path - one that puts people, time, and meaningful recovery first.

Strong Foundations for Beginner Runners”

Thinking about starting running? Before you hit the pavement, spend a few minutes strengthening the muscles that keep you running pain-free 💪

At A&M Physio, we help runners of all levels build strength, confidence and resilience to move better for longer.
Here are a few key exercises our physios recommend for beginners to reduce injury risk and boost performance 👇

Exercises featured:
1️⃣ Bulgarian split squat Eccentric heel raises
2️⃣ Eccentric heel raises
3️⃣ Isometric wall sits
4️⃣ Romanian deadlift (RDL) with kettlebell
5️⃣ Hip thrust with kettlebell

Why these matter:
• Eccentric heel raises: strengthen the calves and Achilles to handle repetitive loading.
• Hip thrusts: build glute power for propulsion and stability.
• Bulgarian split squats: improve single-leg control, balance and knee resilience.
• RDLs: target hamstrings and posterior chain for efficient stride mechanics.
• Wall sits: develop quadriceps endurance to keep your form strong, even on tired legs.

Start incorporating these into your weekly routine to run stronger, longer, and with fewer setbacks.

💬 Do you want a personalised programme to go with your running goals? Or Injured and want support to build back stronger to return to running?

Let’s have an honest conversation about chronic pain... 💬

When we understand that pain is our brain’s way of trying to protect us (even when protection isn’t needed), we can start to work WITH our nervous system instead of against it.

This isn’t about dismissing our pain or telling people to ‘think positive.’ It’s about understanding the science so we can take back control.

Ready to dive deeper? This week we’re exploring:
✨ How the nervous system gets ‘stuck’
✨ Why movement helps (not harms)
✨ Practical strategies that actually work

Your pain journey doesn’t have to be a mystery. Knowledge is power, and recovery IS possible. 💪

Follow our upcoming series to bring light to the darkness on chronic pain
