Measles is circulating in the West Midlands, with 26 confirmed cases in 2026. Measles is a very unpleasant illness and can be very infectious and highly contagious. The MMRV vaccination will protect against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox Over 99% of those who have 2 doses of the MMRV vaccine will be protected against measles and rubella. Although mumps protection is slightly lower, cases in vaccinated people are much less severe. It's never too late to contact your GP to check your child’s vaccination history. If you are visiting a petting zoo /farm this half term, please remember to:

- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before eating or drinking, particularly straight after petting any animals and after removing any dirty shoes. REMINDER: Do not use gels or wipes instead of washing hands with soap and water. Gels and wipes do not remove bugs in dirt.

- Supervise children closely to ensure they wash their hands thoroughly – washing your hands should take about 20 seconds – the same time that it takes to recite a single verse of β€œOld Macdonald Had a Farm”

- Do not put hands on faces or fingers in mouths while petting animals

- Do not kiss farm animals or allow children to put their faces close to animals
