For the better part of the last 20 years, I have been on various diets, eating plans, and exercise regimes, experiencing varying degrees of success. Starting these programs has always been easy for me, but maintaining weight loss has been the challenging part. Over the years, I found myself gaining more weight until I could barely recognise myself in the mirror.
I began my Slimming World journey in April 2024, and it got off to a good start. I lost around 2.5 stone in my first two and a bit months and enjoyed exploring the app's fabulous recipes, even adapting my own off-plan recipes. However, I hit a plateau for a few weeks, which left me feeling discouraged, and eventually, I stopped attending group. Consequently, I regained almost all the weight I had lost.
In December, I decided it was time to return to the group, and I'm glad I did! When I resumed, I was down 0.5 stone from my initial starting weight. This time, however, I was more determined than ever to lose as much weight as possible before my 50th birthday. I was also eager to return to competitive squash. It took a couple of months, but I finally managed to lose weight below my previous level and have been progressing steadily since.
My biggest motivators are my 7pm Monday family and my fantastic consultant, Angie. Everyone is friendly and genuinely invested in each other's progress. This supportive environment keeps me honest and accountable, and I enjoy sharing experiences of the week, new recipes and celebrating each other's achievements. It's not always smooth sailing, and in those cases, it helps to have a shared sense of commiseration. Most importantly, I've learned not to let those bad weeks affect me as much as they used to, and attending group has become essential for me!
I have gone from wearing a 5XL to a 2XL, and I haven't felt as good about my health and fitness in well over a decade! I am now beginning to climb the squash rankings, too! Thanks to Slimming World, Angie and my Monday famil
