Fl**ge fit really matters when using a breast pump. The right size can make pumping more comfortable and more effective.

If pumping feels painful or you’re not getting much milk, your fl**ge size might be the issue.

Women across the North East of England — get in touch if you’d like a pump fitting. I’d love to help.

Meet amandadunbaribclc 💛

Amanda has been supporting families with breastfeeding for over 20 years and for more than 16 of those as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), the highest qualification in infant feeding support.

With experience across the NHS, the voluntary sector and private practice, she offers calm, practical guidance through everything from low milk supply, relactation and tongue tie to mixed feeding, expressing, mastitis and understanding normal baby behaviour.

As a mum of four and now a proud grandma of two, she brings both professional expertise and real-life understanding to the families she supports.

We’re so excited that Amanda is running a FREE breastfeeding support group at The Playgroup Hub, Sunderland.

Whether you’re pregnant, newly postpartum or in the thick of your feeding journey, this is a safe, welcoming space to get reassurance, ask questions and feel supported, in truly expert hands.

In her (very limited!) spare time she loves baking, although that time has become even more precious since her two grandchildren arrived this past year 💕

Having access to this level of qualified support locally is something really special!

Come see us on a Thursday @ 11.30am (FREE BUT MUST BE BOOKED ONLINE) ❤️

When I help mothers find their best fit pump size it is the tip we measure as a guide.

When I help mothers find their best fit pump size it is the tip we measure as a guide.

I get this question often: what exactly IS the tip 🗻 of the ni**le that we're supposed to measure 📏 for fl**ge fitting?

For some people, the tip is more obvious 👀 than for others, this is true.
Ultimately, the good news 📰 (I hope) is that measuring (or assessing) the tip diameter is just a starting point.

Pumping should feel like "nothing" or "a gentle tug". If it hurts, it's not the right size. Sometimes going smaller than you even think will fit helps you find the right size. It's an art, not a science...and the person pumping ultimately has to decide what feels best AND gets the most milk out.
Fl**ges come as small as 9mm (the diameter of the tunnel).

There are also different shapes of fl**ges and different materials. All of these factors influence comfort and milk flow.

To learn more about fl**ge fitting as a person who plans to pump, is pumping, or helps other people with pumping, see https://www.babiesincommon.com

Or, post your questions below or DM me!

⚠️New product recalls: Aptamil and Cow & Gate first infant milk and follow-on milk.

Danone is recalling several Aptamil and Cow & Gate infant formula and follow-on milk products because cereulide toxin may be present in some batches.

Cereulide can cause rapid onset of nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps. It's unlikely to be destroyed by boiling water or cooking.
Even if your baby seems well, it is essential to stop using affected products. If the formula was prescribed by a health professional, consult a pharmacist or other medical professional before changing formula.

For a full list of affected products and batch information, visit: https://www.food.gov.uk/news-alerts/alert/fsa-prin-05-2026
