We are drilling for an open-loop geothermal heating system at Hartlepool Hospital, powered by the Massenza Drilling Rigs MI15 drilling rig. The key features of the project include:

🔸 2 Abstraction Wells - 120m depth, 20” to 16” steel casing
🔸 2 Recharge Wells - 120m depth, 13” to 8” steel casing

Here are a few photos from recent jobs we've been working on at Welltherm Drilling. On one project, we drilled through some chalk and flints. We successfully grouted 20 meters of 14” casing and then drilled to the required depth of 120 meters at 12 1/4”. We installed airlifting equipment to 120 meters and airlifted the well clean, preparing it for geophysical testing. Once the testing was complete, we installed the plastic casing to the full depth.

On another job, located in Wales, the team and equipment were put to the test! However, the reliability of Welltherm's drilling equipment and the unstoppable performance of the Massenza Drilling Rigs MI15 made the task manageable. We installed 20” and 16” casings, drilled to 20 meters, grouted in a 14” casing, and then removed the 20” and 16” casings. After, we then drilled out to a depth of 100 meters.

A major milestone has been reached in the UKRI Ground Source Heat Pump project! Drilling has been completed, achieving a maximum depth of 238.5 meters. The core samples will now be analysed so that the British Geological Survey can characterise the geology profile of their heat pump borehole array.

Check out this solid Gypsum core we recently drilled.

Gypsum is a soft sulphate mineral. It is often used as a fertiliser and is the main constituent in plaster.

We boxed up this core for research purposes as part of a project in partnership with the British Geological Survey.

The new Mi15 is in action!
Our new Massenza Drilling Rigs rig is currently coring at a site in Nottingham.

The site will have 28 boreholes drilled at a depth of 240m, in preparation for heat pump installations.

Breaking ground and building up! 💪

It’s exciting times as we drill pipe trenches at the Leeds tower blocks in preparation for a Ground Source Heat Pump installation.
