Today, we are celebrating our incredible Health Care Support Workers. They are a huge part of the compassionate, dedicated team members who make such a difference every single day here at Rowans Hospice. 💚

Their dedication, expertise, and compassion ensure that every person and family we support receives the care and dignity they deserve.

We are deeply grateful for everything they do, from delivering hands-on care and emotional support to creating a calm, welcoming environment for our patients.

✨ Gift a Cuddle This Christmas

At Rowans Hospice, we see every day how powerful a simple cuddle can be, the warmth, comfort, and closeness it brings in the most difficult of times.

A cuddle bed allows patients and their loved ones to lie side by side, hold hands, and share precious moments that might otherwise be impossible.

This Christmas, we are asking for your help to make sure every family has the chance for a final cuddle. With only three cuddle beds for sixteen rooms, we dream of a time when no one has to say goodbye from a distance.

Your donation could help us bring families closer, turning a lonely night into a moment of love and comfort.

This Thursday, we would like to say a very special thank you to eight-year-old Elisa, for her incredible 20-mile cycle in memory of her dad, Pip.

In the summer holidays, Elisa cycled around Langstone Harbour in one day, in memory of her dad who taught her how to ride a bike when she was younger. Elisa has raised an incredible £2,742 for the Hospice and for the care that she received from our Meerkat Services. 🍃

Elisa said: “I want to raise money so they can help other families that are struggling like me and my Mummy did. They are amazing and brilliant.”

We are all so grateful for Elisa’s bravery and hard work. To read more about Elisa’s adventurous fundraising event, please visit the link below. 💚 https://buff.ly/8qO6Za9

This week we join voices across the UK for Children’s Grief Awareness Week. The theme this year, “Sharing stories, strengthening hope,” reminds us that for children, grief changes everything — how they see the world, how safe they feel in it, and how they connect with others.

Yet, even in grief, there is hope: hope that with the right support, at the right time, surrounded by love and understanding, children can grow, laugh and find joy again.

Every day in Rowans Meerkat Service, we are in awe of the strength shown by the children we support. Sometimes just to leave the house, to smile, to engage with friends or to manage an entire day at school. This is the true definition of resilience. We could not be prouder to be alongside these children, holding onto hope when, at times, that feels too heavy for them to manage alone.

An integral part of our service provision is our group sessions, where children have the opportunity to share their stories of loss, to have fun, and to learn they are not alone.

At Rowans Meerkat Service, we firmly believe that while bereavement is life-changing, it does not have to define a child’s future.

With support, understanding and hope, we can help each child to move forward with confidence, carry their memories with love and navigate their own path towards a happy and fulfilling life.

Remembering someone special with Light Up a Life.

Light Up a Life is an annual celebration of loved ones who are no longer with us, observed by hospices across the UK during the festive period. At Rowans Hospice, we celebrate Light Up a Life through our Lake of Lights event, taking place at Canoe Lake in Southsea on Sunday, 14 December 2025 from 5:00pm.

If you are unable to join us on the night, you can make a dedication on our Light Up a Life Dedication Wall. If you can donate to Rowans Hospice at the same time, it would be very much appreciated. All donations, large and small, make a difference to the Hospice.

Help us ensure that every family is given the opportunity to share a cuddle during the most difficult of times.

At the end of 2024 we were grateful to receive generous grants from The Grace Trust, The Mark Benevolent Fund and Hampshire, IOW Masonic Charitable Foundation, and an anonymous funder, to fund three Cuddle Beds for the In-patient Unit.

However, with 16 rooms in total, we are now appealing to our community to help us fund the 13 additional beds.
