Rowans Hospice

Rowans Hospice Established since 1994, we support more than 1,000 patients and families across Portsmouth and South East Hampshire every year.

Rowans Hospice is a charity offering free specialist Hospice care and bereavement support across South East Hampshire including Waterlooville, Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham and Hayling Island. We provide our services free from discrimination and free of charge, but it costs £7.2million to continue our vital work, and we rely on charitable giving for 90% of this income.

To celebrate National Volunteers Week, we would like to highlight our incredible volunteers who dedicate so much time, kindness and compassion to support our Hospice. 🌟

From supporting our patients and families in the Hospice, working in one of our Retail Shops, helping to support our Living Well Services or giving their time at one of our Fundraising Events – your support makes such a huge difference to the services we provide.

One week isn’t nearly enough to show our appreciation for all your hard work - we truly couldn’t do what we do without you, and we will always be so thankful for each and every one of you. 🫶

As we continue celebrating Volunteers' Week, we’d like to introduce you to one of our wonderful volunteers, Geoff. ⭐

Geoff started helping at our Gosport Emporium when it first opened, as he was looking for something meaningful to do with his time after retiring. His connection to Rowans Hospice grew even stronger when his brother received care from the Hospice following a major heart attack.

As well as volunteering at the Emporium, Geoff is a valued member of the Gosport Fundraising Support Group, helping to organise and attend local fundraising events. He also generously gives his time to support our Fundraising Team.

We are all incredibly grateful for everything Geoff does for us. 💚

If you could support us with the gift of time, we’d love to hear from you. Find out more about our volunteering opportunities on our website: www.rowanshospice.co.uk/volunteers

Volunteers' Week 🫶

To celebrate this year’s Volunteers week, we would like to introduce you to one of our dedicated ward volunteers, Kim. 🍃

Kim’s dad was supported by Rowans Hospice two years ago. Inspired by the care her family received, she began volunteering on our ward to make a difference to others — and to herself — often going home thinking, “I know I made a difference today.”

Our ward volunteers are there to support the needs of patients and families in many ways, from making drinks to offering companionship. We are incredibly grateful for their support in helping us provide such compassionate care.

We recognise the amazing contribution of all our volunteers, and the meaningful impact that giving just a few hours each week can have on those in need. 💚

💚 PROUDLY SUPPORTING ROWANS HOSPICE 💚

We’re proud to be supporting Rowans Hospice as our official charity partner for the South Downs Food Festival.

You’ll find the Rowans Hospice team on site all weekend, with stalls offering:

🛍 Charity retail items
🎲Family-friendly games
🍰 Homemade cakes and treats
🎫 Raffle tickets for a chance to win some fantastic local food & drink donated by our incredible producers...plus more!

It’s a great chance to enjoy the festival while supporting an incredible local charity making a real difference across our community.

The lovely volunteers at the Rowans Hospice will be managing the festival car parking, which is free of charge, however a small optional donation would be appreciated with 100% of contributions going directly to Rowans Hospice to support their vital work in the region.

Thank you in advance for your generosity 💚

This summer, we invite you to come together with us to celebrate the memories of loved ones by taking part in our Moments & Memories appeal and event.

At Rowans Hospice, we don’t just provide expert hospice care — we look after the little things too. The moments of joy, comfort, and connection that mean so much to the families we support.

Our Clinical Lead, Amy Russell shared:

“In my role as Clinical Lead, I have the privilege of witnessing these moments every day. I will never forget one patient who married her partner here at the hospice. She had shared a simple wish: to enjoy one last ice cream in the sunshine. On her wedding day, we arranged a surprise visit from an ice cream van, and we gently wheeled her bed down the corridor, her husband by her side.”

Every day, we help create moments that matter — moments of comfort, togetherness, laughter, and love. Moments that families will carry with them forever.

Donate today, and help us create more moments that matter when it matters most. Donate via our website - https://www.rowanshospice.co.uk/moments-and-memories/

Thank You Thursday 🌟

We would like to show our appreciation to Tim and Harry for braving the Three Peaks Challenge in memory of their friend, Charlie Crawford.

Tim and Harry were among 10 people who took on the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in just 24 hours to celebrate the memory of their best friend Charlie on his anniversary, saying “It's about turning grief into something positive, something that makes a difference.”

With a lot of sweat and determination, they smashed the challenge and raised over £4,000, including gift aid, for Rowans Hospice, which is a truly incredible amount.

We are so proud of your amazing achievement and for the wonderful amount raised which will help us to provide the vital care within our community. Thank You. 💚

We have recently completed our first six-week Cookery Course in our Living Well Centre kitchen.

Since launching in 2018, our Cookery Course has supported more than 100 people, helping them regain confidence in cooking, learn new skills, and connect with others in a warm and welcoming environment.

While the course has been running for several years, this was the first time it was held within our Living Well Centre – creating an even more familiar space for those attending.

The course is designed to support people at different stages of life, whether they are rediscovering a love of cooking, adapting to new routines at home, or looking for companionship and confidence in the kitchen. Sessions provide a relaxed and supportive environment where people can learn new skills and connect with others.

A huge thank you to The Oaks, Havant Crematorium for generously funding this course. Rachel, Manager at The Oaks, shared:

“Supporting the Rowans cookery course truly matters to us because we see the difference it makes to people’s lives. It’s not just about learning to cook, it’s about restoring confidence at a time when people may feel fragile, uncertain or disconnected. Watching individuals grow in self-belief, take pride in what they create, and share moments of laughter and conversation around food is incredibly powerful.”
