This week we join voices across the UK for Children’s Grief Awareness Week. The theme this year, “Sharing stories, strengthening hope,” reminds us that for children, grief changes everything — how they see the world, how safe they feel in it, and how they connect with others.
Yet, even in grief, there is hope: hope that with the right support, at the right time, surrounded by love and understanding, children can grow, laugh and find joy again.
Every day in Rowans Meerkat Service, we are in awe of the strength shown by the children we support. Sometimes just to leave the house, to smile, to engage with friends or to manage an entire day at school. This is the true definition of resilience. We could not be prouder to be alongside these children, holding onto hope when, at times, that feels too heavy for them to manage alone.
An integral part of our service provision is our group sessions, where children have the opportunity to share their stories of loss, to have fun, and to learn they are not alone.
At Rowans Meerkat Service, we firmly believe that while bereavement is life-changing, it does not have to define a child’s future.
With support, understanding and hope, we can help each child to move forward with confidence, carry their memories with love and navigate their own path towards a happy and fulfilling life.
