Urine tests- used during pregnancy to check for diabetes, UTI’s, Preeclampsia, kidney function, dehydration and other health conditions. Is it sad that I got excited today because finally a funnel is provided to p*e into a test tube. It’s the little things lol. How were we ever ment to aim in that tiny hole all while making it around our growing bumps? If a funnel is not provided using a sterile cup could help. Or waiting until mid flow so you have a better aim at collecting it. Struggling to get a sample as you went before leaving home so not to get caught short? Try drinking more while waiting it can take 15-20 mins to refill your bladder if you are hydrated enough. Rocking side to side and back and forth on the toilet allowing any extra out.

A few weeks ago I was chosen by a lovely family in supporting their elective caesarean section, also known as a planned C-section, a surgical procedure to deliver a baby before labor begins. This was my clients choice after health complications in a previous labour. I was lucky enough to go to theatre with her and create the birth experience she missed out on previously. . What can you do to have a positive Ceasarean birth? -music
-Request cord is clamped after stops pulsing or white(most hospitals protocol is 1 min)
-Arms out of town leaving chest free for skin to skin.
-Use breathing/hypnobirthing
-monitors on shoulders or sides
-minamal talking in the room

Hats on or off baby? Putting a hat on your newborn the second they are born is something you should be questioning. It has become normal practice in lots of settings. You may find your midwife may just do it without even asking, which is why you see lots of babys with knitted multi coloured hats in hospitals.
But what if I told you that there are far more benifits to not putting that hat on.
Having skin to skin is the best way to keep your baby warm not a hat. Research has actually found that there is no difference between the temperature of a baby with or without a hat whilst it is having skin to skin (Francesco Cavallin et al 2018).
Putting a hat on your baby stops that all important newborn smell that starts the release of oxytocin. This flood of oxytocin supports the birth of your placenta, by encouraging it to detach and your uterus to contract to minimise blood loss. This same rush of oxytocin that regulates your babys heart beat and blood pressure.
Ask yourself do you want a hat on your baby?
You can add this to your birth preferences.

I offer honey to my clients during labour when I feel they need a push of energy. It doesn’t need to be chewed and can have it without moving position. Get your honey tubes ready mummies 🍯
