One of original members
“It doesn’t come easy.”

A perfect example of this are her positions, yes they’re 5 years apart but the fact is, she never stopped, she continued to do the thing which made her better!
She joined as a member in 2020! The last picture is her today. Hitting an EASY complex of squat cleans at well over her body weight, hitting a wonderful range of motion to enable this.
Making the lift easier AND safer for her body which in turn is what’s allowed her to keep training and improving over the years when others may end up injured or in pain before seeing such progress.

Consistency will always triumph!

Are your tight Lats causing your shoulder pain?
So often people struggle with pain or limited range overhead.
The musculature of the shoulder is extremely complex, with the joint needing range in more than one plane, it has to be!
The lats & rotator cuff complex cause various forms of shoulder pain and dysfunction & so more often than not (especially in CrossFit athletes) they are the ‘go-to’ areas for mobility work.
Also note the origin of the Lats ( 🤫 thoracic spine - no wonder there is a STRONG connection in overhead range and thoracic spine stiffness 😉)
With there are videos explaining, beyond just stretching, how to look after and self treat these problem areas & maintain a happy & healthy shoulder.

A simple search bar and you can find a flow which covers specific joints and areas which you need to focus on.

This is designed to help get newly post partum mums moving with confidence again.
It will target areas of the body which become stiff and weak from longer periods of sitting and feeding.
It will aid blood flow and boost endorphins - both essential for physical and mental wellbeing at this stage in your life 💛

You must continue to work for it.

Thoracic Spine:
The mobility of the spine in the middle of your back, which is made up of 12 vertebrae.

Improving thoracic mobility can help with posture and form, and can also help you maintain a chest-up position during lifts such as the front and overhead squat as well as improve overhead range in all pressing movements.

Outside of the gym, it allows you to hang washing on the line, reach up into high cupboards, putting your kid up onto a climbing frame (to name a few!)

This is possibly my FAVOURITE way to start opening up the thoracic spine & I urge you to try it on your roller.

Thoracic extension
• The ability for the t-spine to move from its normally kyphotic (forward rounded position) to a flat or even arched (extended) position.

Lack of thoracic extension is one of the most common mobility restrictions we see.

We use a foam roller a LOT in our MAP flows to help work on thoracic range of motion.
The two images show the different range you can achieve with a braced core & more fixed lumbar spine (lower back)
And a relaxed, more passive range which is achievable through further involvement of the lower back.

Image 1 is what we really want to achieve when targeting JUST the thoracic.
If we become too passive, the lower back will ‘cheat’ for us (our bodies are clever things!)

Knowing HOW to get the most out of mobility is what MAP will teach you.
