🕊 I am Peace - Book of Mindfulness by Susan Verde and Peter Reynolds

☮ This week we will talk about Peace and how we can become more peaceful & calm by using our slow deep breaths, how we can spread the peace around us by being more kind, mindful and compassionate!

Sometimes its not that easy and it takes practise for us adults and children! That's why yoga stretches, breathing techniques & relaxation are great tools to have when needed! 💖

Children have a lot to navigate in this world. They are learning how to make good choices and manage their emotions. They are learning how to be kind to themselves and others while keeping up with schoolwork and balancing their busy lives. Practising Mindfulness can give kids the tools to help them on their journey.

But what does this word actually mean? Mindfulness means being fully engaged in the present moment, paying careful attention to our experience (our feelings, sensations in the body, emotions, surroundings) without judgement, but with kindness and curiosity. Teaching mindfulness exercises not only strengthen a child's "attention muscle" but it also helps them to learn to create distance between their big emotions and themselves. Children develop the ability to choose their responses rather than react.

We will also practise this week yoga poses which are good for stretching tight hamstrings (downward facing dog, ragdoll pose and happy baby pose).

💪🏼 Warrior poses sequences this week on the yoga classes

Conquering fears and anxiety through these powerful yoga postures which gives children confidence and courage!

We will talk about how we all feel fears sometimes, even adults, but we need to feel the fear and do it anyway! Few years ago I read a book by Susan Jeffers "Feel the Fear and do it anyway" and it inspired me that we can't wait until we don't feel fear of doing something we want to do (lets say start something new) but we need to feel this feeling of fear, breathe through it and do it anyway!

Warrior poses are great to find that strength inside us and say positive affirmations like "I am brave!", "I am courageous!", "I can do it!" 💪🏼

🌿 Well done to one of the children from my yoga classes practising Wheel Pose (Chakrasana) at home. This yoga pose is a backbend that boosts flexibility, strengthens arms and the spine.

🌿 Kids start lying on their back, knees bent with feet near hips, and palms beside their ears, slowly lifting their hips and shoulders to create a wheel-like curve.

🌿 This yoga pose also strengthen core and shoulder muscles, improve posture and increase energy. It promotes emotional balance, reduces stress and boosts confidence by encouraging a sense of accomplishment in children.

We will also talk about challenging feelings like fear, disappointment, rejection and worries with the children. How beeing aware of these big feelings when they arise is important. It's actually strength 💪 to acknowledge them and express them in healthy way ❤️🙏🏼✨️

Legs up the wall - is a simple, effective and calming pose for children that promotes relaxation and aids in reducing overstimulation. It also supports better sleep by encouraging blood circulation. It is ideal for after-school, bedtime or calming down "big feelings".

❤ Heart Opening Yoga classes this week ❤

We are going to practise heart opening yoga postures this week as its Valentine's day soon 🤗 We will talk about that we should spread love & appreciation every day not just Valentine's day ❤ we will discuss how showing respect to someone by listening to their opinions will also show them love and respect that way.

We will also talk a lot about self-love and how important is to also love yourself and not just others! How we can be kind & compassionate to ourselves and others, positive self-talk and affirmations like "I am enough" 💪 "I love myself ", "I shine love from my heart everywhere I go".

Kids love partner postures and get creative how else they can make heart shape poses ❤

Other examples of heart opening postures are Camel pose 🐪 Cat pose 🐈 Upward facing dog pose 🐕 Bridge or Wheel pose and Bow pose.

We usually start the yoga classes with noticing how we feel at that moment. The children can share their feelings and notice where in the body they feel it.
This creates awareness of emotions and connection to the present moment.

This week we learned about 'Disappointment', the children shared their experiences from their past when they felt disappointed.

The kids love the Yoga cards called "Yoga Pretzels" by Tara Guber and Leah Kalish

There are lots of yoga postures and partner pose cards. I highly recommend them to any parents or teachers to use with their children.

Partner poses are fun and help build trust, connection, and confidence. They promote friendships and teamwork.

Yoga Snap cards games from this week on my yoga classes ☺

I use these cards on all of my kids yoga classes as children get engaged with them and practise yoga in small groups. They are great fun! 🤸‍♀️

They can create their own yoga sequences with these cards.

We will play other yoga games like yoga dice games and yoga challenge cards, memory yoga cards, balancing on yoga blocks and using yoga straps for deeper stretching.

⚖️ Balance kids yoga classes

🌿 We all know how important is to find right balance in our lifes! Same thing is for kids! 🤸‍♀️

🧘🏽‍♀️ Yoga & Mindfulness can help. We all need to work on finding physical, mental and emotional balance. There are lots of ways we can choose from to find this balance like exercising, dancing, hobbies, pets, walks, etc. One of the ways I teach kids its through yoga poses and breathing exercises we can find this balance if we keep practising long enough!

So this week we will focus on balancing poses to help children find this balance in their mind, body & soul. We will also talk about how deep breathing can truly connent us back to our body and our mind.

🦋 The Butterfly Hug breathing technique which we will practise combines alternating taps on our chest with deep, rhythmic breathing to calm the nervous system and ground us during stress or anxiety. Its calming bilateral stimulation, similar to gentle wing flaps, helping us process feelings without judgment, like watching clouds pass by 🌫

With younger children we will do Dinosaurs 🦕 balancing yoga poses.
