Find your balance. About Siobhan and PresentMind Wellness Pathways

I understand what it's like to navigate the relentless pressures of a demanding professional life, compounded by the unique challenges that come with being a woman in your 30s, 40s, 50s, or 60s. The juggling act of career, family (including raising my daughter), and personal well-being can often leave you feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and disconnected from your inner calm. My own journey led me through years in the corporate world, facing high-stress roles, including my time at Shell Trading. There, I was responsible for managing global supply routes – a truly 24/7, demanding operation. It was whilst working at Shell Trading that I was also pursuing my Postgraduate in Maritime Operations at City University. In 2004, a diagnosis of Sjögren's Syndrome brought new complexities, and navigating perimenopause and menopause in my early 40s added significant challenges. These combined experiences, which led to burnout at Shell Trading, became a pivotal point. It was during this intensely challenging period that I discovered the profound, life-changing power of mindfulness. Even more recently, last year, diagnoses of osteoporosis in my spine and osteoarthritis in my hands, knees, and feet brought further personal understanding of managing chronic physical conditions. Through it all, mindfulness hasn't just been a technique; it's been a vital pathway to reclaiming my peace, managing anxiety, navigating physical discomfort with greater ease, and finding a quiet strength I didn't know I had. This personal transformation ignited a deep passion within me to share these invaluable tools. I even returned to Shell Trading post-burnout and was promoted, a testament to mindfulness's profound impact on my resilience and performance. Committed to sharing this transformative power, I formally qualified as a Breathworks Mindfulness Teacher in 2016, deepening my understanding and ability to guide others. My dedication to holistic well-being expanded when I qualified as a Dru Yoga teacher in 2019, enriching my approach to mind-body connection. Further solidifying my commitment to effective teaching, I was awarded a Level 3 Award in Education and Training in 2021. My background is rooted in robust professional training, holding a BA in International Management from Middlesex University (2001). This diverse foundation allows me to understand the unique demands of professional life and translate complex concepts into practical, relatable strategies. At PresentMind Wellness Pathways, my mission is to provide practical, accessible, and compassionate guidance. I draw not only on proven mindfulness and wellbeing techniques but also on my real-world understanding of the challenges you face, offering tailored strategies that fit seamlessly into your busy life. My courses are designed to help you move from overwhelm to a place of inner clarity, from constant worry to genuine peace, and from exhaustion to renewed energy. It's about empowering you with a 'can-do' attitude, focusing on what's truly possible when you nurture your mind and spirit. You'll gain practical tools to reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, boost focus, and cultivate a sense of calm that anchors you, no matter what life throws your way. I believe that every woman deserves to find her calm within. Join me on this journey to less anxiety and more inner peace. 💀 Dancing with My Ancestors: A Night of Día de Mu***os 🧡💛

Recently at Holborn with 🇲🇽✨

Día de Mu***os - what a beautiful way to honour those we've lost. A night of colour, music, dancing, and joy that reminded me there are many ways to carry our grief.

A massive thank you to my wonderful colleagues from Watford Women's Centre who came along, and especially to Silvia for organising such a fantastic outing!

Growing up in Ireland, we'd gather at the graveyards for Pattern Days. These are annual gatherings where we'd clean the graves of all our ancestors so we always feel that we are standing on the shoulders of our ancestors and know our lineage—quiet remembrance usually in the rain.

But this Mexican tradition—with its marigolds, papel picado, and celebration—showed me that honouring the dead doesn't have to be solemn. It can be alive with memory, laughter, and love.

As a daughter who has lost both parents, I'm learning that grief and celebration aren't opposites. The hardest part of losing them isn't just the absence—it's learning to let them be gone while keeping them close. This recent celebration felt like permission to do both.

The Mexican way of death understands something profound: our loved ones aren't truly gone if we keep their memory alive with joy, not just sorrow. They'd want us to dance, to sing, to live fully.

Thank you for this gift of a different perspective on loss. 🧡💛

Swinging Through Peri & Menopause: Finding our Fearless Fun Again!

Listen to my girls in the background of this video - my daughter giggling and my granddaughter shouting "Yes, Grandma!" as I tried out a kid's rope swing! You also hear me say "I can't get off!" 😬

That moment on the swing reminded me so much of how perimenopause and menopause can sometimes throw us for a loop. Suddenly, things that never bothered us before can spark new fears and anxieties. We might find ourselves hesitant to try new things, questioning our capabilities, or just feeling a little "stuck."

For a moment, I truly felt like I couldn't get off that swing. But then, I found my footing, pushed through, and guess what? I got off! And now I know I can do a rope swing! 💪

This little adventure was a powerful reminder that taking small, manageable risks, even something as simple as a playground swing, can be incredibly empowering. It helps us rebuild confidence, challenge those new anxieties, and remind ourselves of the incredible strength and resilience we still possess. We absolutely can do it!

What "rope swings" are you challenging yourself with lately? Share your small wins in the comments!

This is Why I've Been Quiet: Big Work, Big Purpose.

If my feed has felt a little quiet over here at recently, please forgive me! 👋 I've been heads-down, pouring all my energy into designing and developing something truly special and meaningful.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been collaborating with the amazing Watford Women's Centre team to create a powerful, structured self-care event launching during the upcoming **16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence** campaign.

My mission has been to craft a supportive space where women can finally set down their heavy loads, learn how to let go of what weighs them down, and reclaim their right to rest and peace.

This workshop is all about empowerment and sustainable self-care tools. I can't wait for the official reveal!

Keep a close eye on - they will be dropping the full event details, including the official title, date, and how to book your spot, very soon!

💖 I promise, this one is worth the wait.

Autumn Gratitude

The air's got that crisp, new feel to it, hasn't it? It's the little things that remind you to stop and take a breath.

Was crossing a rail bridge today in Rickmansworth and spotted a tiny human with her dad, watching a tube train pop out from underground. The driver tooted and waved, and her squeal of pure joy was just the best. It's moments like that - the unexpected, infectious delight - that make the start of Autumn a brilliant time for gratitude.

✨ This image, seemingly a black hole, reminds me of the importance of mindfulness. Just as the black hole's gravity pulls everything inward, our thoughts can sometimes overwhelm us. This image encourages me to pause, breathe, and focus on the present moment. To appreciate the immense beauty and mystery of the universe, and to find that same sense of wonder within myself.

Contentment lies in supporting others where we can. Standing with the signatures of my fellow volunteers.

As a volunteer photographer, I met people from all over the world. We laughed together, shared our stories, commiserated, shook our heads, waved our arms and smiled.

I had the opportunity to share my gifts (it's not photography) and in turn received some wonderful support from peers and unexpected places.

The joy of community and the joy of remaining open.

Just wrapped up another 6-week mindfulness course and I'm filled with gratitude! 🙏

Watching participants discover practical tools to self-regulate and feel less overwhelmed, find grounding techniques with everyday objects like seashells, and develop a genuine sense of calm and inner peace has been truly special.

Hearing them say they feel 'calm and peace within themselves' and that our sessions were 'an oasis of calm in an otherwise busy day' reminds me why I'm so passionate about this work.

Seeing complete beginners gain confidence to express themselves in our supportive space - knowing they felt safe to share ideas without judgment - shows the power of what we create together.

The feedback about finding useful tools and discovering that 'how we feel is not right or wrong' captures exactly what mindfulness offers - practical wisdom for daily life.

Ready to find your own oasis of calm? My next 6-week mindfulness course starts soon. Link in bio 💙
