So Purkh 40 days Sadhana
You are invited to our first 2025 group meditation chant. This time we are going to dwell in the Devine So Purkh, bhani (prayer) that was given by Guru Ram Das (the fourth Sikh guru) to women, as a prayer of dedication, healing and bringing forth the masculine at all levels – both internally and externally, personal and collective, through the vibrational intention of the sacred Gurmukhi language.
Your intention can be sending loving energy to a one or handful of men In your life, who need healing, each in very different ways; and to create a sacred space for inner journeying, with the hope of strengthening your own heart. These intentions should be offered with sincerity and without expectation.
The Siri Singh Sahib, Yogi Bhajan, taught that if a woman recites this bani eleven times a day for any man, it has the power to make him a saint and dissolve any negativity between them. He would often give this as a sadhana to women for the men in their lives. So Purkh is a part of Rehiraas, the evening prayer of the sikhs.
“Woman is the molder of time, the molder of space and of man: the man of tomorrow, the child; the man of today, the husband, and the men of yesterday, the ancestors. The entire society in theory and in reality is based on the spirit of the woman.”
- Yogi Bhajan.
You can have props like a printed out mantra or you can write them out in a notebook, where you can also journal your experience. A candle and incense stick would make the experience that much deeper.
The bhani will be recited 11 times and take just over 31 minutes.
In Sanskrit, the word mantra मन्त्र means ‘instrument of thought’ or ‘to think’. Mantras are sacred utterances, born out of the ta***ic traditions of ancient India. In Sikhism in particular, mantras are used as a tool for transcending the material world and aligning with the voice of god.
