Today is Breast Cancer Awareness Day 2025 and here at Redwell Medical Centre we are raising awareness by all wearing pink!
Five tips on how to do self examine your breasts.
1. đź“… Check once a month at the right time:
For menstruating individuals, check your breasts a few days after your period ends, when they are least likely to be swollen, lumpy or tender. If you’re not menstruating, pick a specific day of the month to perform the exam.
2. đź‘€Look for Changes:
Stand in front of a mirror with your arms at your sides, then raise them above your head. Look for any visible changes in breast shape, size, or color, and check for dimpling, puckering, or changes in the skin texture.
3. ✋Feel for Lumps:
Lie down or stand, and use the pads of your fingers to gently press around your breast and under your armpit in a circular motion. Cover the entire breast and armpits. Be on the lookout for any lumps, thickened areas, or changes in texture.
4. 🤌Check for Discharge:
Gently squeeze the ni**le and check for any unusual discharge, including milky, yellow, or bloody fluid.
5. 🗣️Report Any Changes:
If you notice any lumps, changes in size, shape, or texture, or any unusual discharge, make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. Most changes aren’t cancer, but it’s always best to get them checked professionally.
👉Breasts can naturally feel lumpy or have areas of firmness. The key is to be familiar with what’s normal for you, so you can detect any unusual changes early.
And remember, early detection is key!
