This demonstrates the powerful effect of using deep oscillation therapy with lymphatic drainage in an oedematous area.

I always perform Manual lymphatic drainage as I have been trained with the Vodder school on all initial treatments.
If there are no contraindications for using deep oscillation I often offer this as a form of therapy along with MLD.
Clients love the combination and feel it rids the area of more fluid.

Read about it on my website.

This shows the reduction of oedema in Lymphoedema after a 20 minute treatment with deep oscillation therapy as imaged by high definition ultrasound, the type used to detect cracks in space crafts at NASA.

HDU scanning is a method of analysing the water content in tissues. It is simple, pain-free and provides a quantitative assessment of the level of oedema. The scan typically shows red pixels, which indicate tissue oedema (Figure 4), and blue pixels (Figure 5), which indicate healthy tissue. As mentioned in the methods section, each tissue scan is automatically analysed using a form of pixel distribution analysis, whereby pixels below a certain intensity are classed as LEP. The ratio of LEP:TP ratio has been shown to reflect dermal water content.

Lymphoedema

It's understandable to feel uncomfortable being asked about your lymphoedema by strangers, especially if it's a sensitive topic for you. You have the right to choose how much or how little you share with others. If you're comfortable, you can offer a brief explanation, but if you'd rather not discuss it, you can politely decline or redirect the conversation. 💯🙋‍♀️

✅ It's okay to say no. You don't owe anyone an explanation. It's your body and your choice how much you share.
✅ You can be firm but polite. You can be assertive in your response while still being respectful.
✅ Seek support if needed. If you're struggling with the emotional impact of lymphoedema or being asked about it, consider talking to a therapist or joining a support group.

Lymphoedema is often misunderstood. If you encounter someone who is genuinely interested and respectful, you can offer some general information about lymphoedema. Raising awareness helps people understand the causes, symptoms, and management options. 🦋❤️🦋

The MLDUK register is a great way of finding fully qualified and insured therapists in your surrounding area that can treat lymphoedema. Those not on the register that may say they treat lymphoedema may not have the right qualifications with reviews every two years.

Considering MLD treatment? Use the Find a Therapist tool on our website to find a practitioner in your area.

Look after your health

MLDUK believes that to ensure that the highest standards of Manual Lymphatic Drainage are maintained, practice should be confined to those who have undertaken, or who are undertaking, training through these four schools or their accredited teachers.

Manual lymphatic drainage and combined decongestive therapy.

If you have lymphoedema, chronic oedema, lipoedema and other medical related inflammatory conditions, post surgery, injuries and would like to see a specialist please contact me.

I am qualified to treat lymphoedema from any cause including cancer related.

I have trained and qualified with 2 of 5 recognised courses. Dr Vodder Academy and Lymphoedema Training Academy

I am on MLDUK website as a full member and DLT meaning I have qualified to the highest level and for treating medically related lymphoedema.

I have the full and correct insurance to treat medically related lymphoedema.

To stay current I undertake reviews in both schools and need to perform to a certain standard to provide my treatments.

Check with your therapist and enquire as to what lymphatic drainage school they qualified with. Check the therapist is on the MLDUK register.

PLEASE BE AWARE, it’s your health.
There are so many courses for lymphatic drainage massages but they do not follow the strict criteria nor insurance requirements to treat people with lymphoedema.
