🌞 Beautiful Saturday outside, but I’m tucked away at uni getting some exam prep in! 📚 Just finished my fourth placement (one more to go), but there’s still the big stuff ahead — dissertation and final assignments. Busy days, but all part of the journey! 💪🏼

📢 UPDATE
Just wrapped up my 4th placement out of 5 – a leadership placement in a retirement village 👣🌿
Over the past 7 weeks, I worked with older adults (55+) delivering weekly respiratory health workshops on topics like inhaler technique, breathing control, and managing breathlessness. I created and presented PowerPoints, and even led one workshop completely on my own 💪

Alongside group work, I also carried out 1:1 physiotherapy appointments with residents, from initial assessments to treatment planning and follow-ups.

I'm incredibly proud to say I achieved all my learning objectives and received exceptional & outstanding marks across all domains 🎉
Residents and staff gave me amazing feedback 💛

📣 Final feedback from the clinical educator:

It was lovely to attend the Breathlessness workshop with you and "X" student at "Y" Retirement Village; I found it very informative.

Firstly, the information presented to the residents was to such a high standard but also easy to interpret which made the conversation flow easily at a nice pace.

From the 6 residents that were present I was amazed to see the difference that it had already made to their wellbeing. The lady at the front reported sleeping better using the breathing technique pursed lip breathing. The lady next to her had decided to join the gym and had already done her induction. Since commencing the workshop, she had been using better positions for easier breathing and understood what positions made it easier for her breathing. She also had been moving more at her own intensity which in turn was helping increase her lung capacity.

Information on cleaning of inhalers/spacers was not known previously by the residents which demonstrates the gaps around health promotion in respiratory.

You also identified local groups for active movement and support, pulmonary rehab and AMKERS 12 week exercise programme that can be accessed through their GP. I did feel that 2 of the residents were interested in this path.

A huge well done to you both for your time and tremendous efforts in delivering such a fantastic workshop in Breathlessness. Most importantly you made a difference, and you changed the lives of our residents for the better.

I wish you both the best in the remaining part of your course and I hope we cross paths again.

🎓 New Skill Unlocked!
I’ve just completed training in Managing Chronic Breathlessness — a valuable skill that helps me better support people living with conditions like COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis, etc.

As a Sports Therapist and a final-year Physiotherapy student, I’m passionate about movement, recovery, and now… breathing well too! 💨

Looking forward to using this knowledge to support my clients more holistically — whether you're an athlete, a rehab client, or someone managing long-term breathlessness.

🟢 June is Scoliosis Awareness Month — and here’s why it matters to me.

When I was around 12, I started experiencing really bad back pain. It wasn’t just a bit of stiffness — it was the kind of pain that made it hard to fall asleep, sit through a school day, or even just get comfortable. It got so bad that I ended up sleeping on the floor, because my bed felt unbearable. (Not exactly the sleepover vibes I was hoping for at that age!)

Luckily, my mum stepped in and took me to a sports doctor. After a proper assessment, I was diagnosed with scoliosis — a condition where the spine curves sideways. I didn’t really understand it at the time, but I knew one thing: something had to change.

The doctor recommended two things:

1. Wearing a back brace — which wasn’t my favourite, especially during warm summer days (imagine wrapping yourself in a plastic corset… during a heatwave 😅).
2. Joining a sports club that focused on stretching and strengthening my back — they suggested volleyball, and I actually went for it.

And I’m so glad I did.

🏐 Volleyball became a real turning point. The movement, the stretching, the strength — it all helped. I still play to this day. The brace? Uncomfortable, yes — but incredibly effective in helping support my spine as I grew.

Now, as a sports therapist, I work with people every day who are dealing with pain — some of whom never realised it started when they were young.

So, here’s my message — especially to parents:
➡️ Keep an eye on your children’s posture, especially when they’re sitting for long hours doing homework or glued to their screens.
➡️ If they’re complaining of back pain, or if something about their posture looks off — get it checked. A simple screening can make a massive difference.

Scoliosis is more common than most people realise, and early detection is key. Trust me, I’ve lived it — floor naps and all.

Let’s keep raising awareness, sharing stories, and looking out for each other. 💚

🌊☀️ With the temperature rising this week and many heading to lakes, rivers, and beaches to cool off, it's so important to stay safe around water.

As a sports therapist, I see first-hand how vital it is to enjoy physical activity safely – and that includes open water swimming and outdoor fun.

Drowning is preventable. Please take a moment to read and share these important facts from the to help raise awareness and protect lives. A simple reminder can make a big difference. 🛟

With the rising cost of living and the school summer holidays approaching some families may find it challenging to provide regular meals for their children. To help, Abington Community Centre is proud to host, for the first time, the Eat Well, Spend Less 4-day workshop.

This workshop is designed for adults only, but free childcare will be provided at the Centre, so parents are welcome to bring their children.

Participants will learn practical, healthy, and budget-friendly ways to feed their families during the summer and beyond. All food prepared during the sessions can be taken home.

Spaces are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage you to book early to secure your place.

A recent study suggests that certain exercises -- like riding a stationary bicycle -- actually slow cell decline that can happen as you age. In other words, it’s never too late to reap the benefits of exercise! 💪🏻💪🏽💪🏿 https://wb.md/45DARnc
