๐ฉ Heatwave Advice โ๏ธ
What to do if you or someone else feels unwell:
If heat exhaustion isn't spotted and treated early on, there's a risk it could lead to heatstroke. Untreated heatstroke can be fatal. โ ๏ธ
Seek help from a GP or contact NHS 111 ๐ if someone is feeling unwell and shows symptoms of:
โข Breathlessness ๐ฎโ๐จ
โข Chest pain ๐
โข Confusion/dizziness ๐ตโ๐ซ
โข Intense thirst ๐ฅต
โข Weakness ๐
โข Cramps which get worse or don't go away ๐ค
Some medicines can make you more vulnerable to the heat. Discuss this with your pharmacist ๐
โ๏ธโ๏ธDuring a heatwave you can always turn to us, your community pharmacy team, for advice about staying well during the hot weather or to seek assistance when feeling unwell because of the heat ๐ฅต๐
Your heart is more than just a muscle that pumps blood; it is the lifeline to every cell in the body. Despite its ceaseless work, it can face its share of challenges โค๏ธ
Here are five signs that might require medical attention:
#1 โ Unexplained Fatigue ๐ค
Ongoing fatigue that isn't eased by rest can be a sign of an underlying heart issue and can occur at odd times and with relatively little activity. But remember, recognizing this early means youโre one step closer to feeling better!
#2 โ Shortness of Breath ๐ฎโ๐จ
Shortness of breath could indicate a problem with the heart's ability to pump blood, or how well the lungs are able to transfer oxygen to your red blood cells. If even doing simple tasks like making your bed or climbing stairs leaves you gasping for air, it might be time to investigate further. Knowing this can help you breathe easier!
#3 โ Chest Discomfort ๐
While heartburn and indigestion can certainly cause pain in the chest, it's vital to recognise chest pain related to the heart. Angina often presents as pressure sometimes moving into your neck or down your arm. Identifying this early gives you the power to seek help promptly!
#4 โ Dizziness or Lightheadedness ๐ตโ๐ซ
This symptom, associated with a drop in blood pressure, often indicates that the heart is struggling to maintain sufficient circulation. It's time for a check-up! Remember, taking action now leads to better days ahead.
#5 โ Irregular Heartbeat ๐
Checking your pulse regularly and noting any significant changes or sensations can be a vital part of staying tuned in to your heart's health. Staying aware helps keep your heart strong and steady!
If you're worried about anyhting unusual with your health, your pharmacist is here to listen and advise ๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ

๐จโค๏ธ Don't Ignore the Signs! Recognize the Symptoms of a Heart Attack โค๏ธ๐จ
Your heart health matters, and knowing the signs of a heart attack could save a life, maybe even your own! Here are some crucial symptoms to look out for:
1๏ธโฃ Chest discomfort: This could feel like pressure, squeezing, fullness, or pain in the centre of your chest that lasts more than a few minutes or comes and goes.
2๏ธโฃ Pain or discomfort in other areas of the upper body: This could include one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw, or stomach.
3๏ธโฃ Shortness of breath: Feeling out of breath, with or without chest discomfort.
If you or someone around you experiences these symptoms, don't hesitate โ call emergency services immediately. Time is of the essence when it comes to treating a heart attack.
Remember, prevention is key! Keep up with regular check-ups, maintain a healthy lifestyle, and listen to your body.

UTI (or wee infection) symptoms usually include pain or burning when you pee, needing to pee more often especially at night, pain in your lower tummy or back, a high temperature or sometimes even a very low temperature. ๐ฝ๐ฅ
Weโre here to help you feel better as soon as possible with advice on the most suitable treatment including prescription medication if our pharmacist feels it is needed on medical grounds. It's all part of our Pharmacy First service provided free on the NHS. ๐๐ฉบ
Of course, we'll tell you if we think your symptoms are more serious and you need to see your GP. ๐ฉโโ๏ธ๐จโโ๏ธ
In the meantime, here are some useful tips from our pharmacist:
โ
Take paracetamol up to 4 times a day to reduce pain and high temperature
โ
A hot water bottle can help ease discomfort ๐ฅ๐
โ
Drink lots of fluids throughout the day ๐ง๐ฅค
โ
Avoid having sex until you feel better (you canโt pass on a UTI to a partner but it may be uncomfortable) ๐ซโค๏ธ
โ Donโt use scented soap ๐งผ๐ซ
โ Donโt hold your pee in if you feel the urge to go and try to empty your bladder completely ๐ฝ๐ฆ
โ Donโt wear tight, synthetic underwear ๐๐ซ
โ Avoid alcohol and sugary food or drinks ๐ท๐ญ๐ซ.
โ IMPORTANT โ
Always follow the instructions on the packet when taking medication.
Taking cystitis or cranberry products hasn't been clinically shown to ease UTI symptoms.
Remember, with the right care and attention, you'll be back to feeling great in no time! ๐๐ฉน๐โฒ

โ ๏ธ The high pollen count coupled with the recent wet weather, followed by sun especially in a polluted area create a 'pollen bomb' which is hay fever sufferer's worst nightmare ๐ซฃ
The pollen count usually peaks in the late morning when particles rise with the warming air into the atmosphere, so itโs best to avoid walking outside at these times of the day โ
๏ธ Over the course of the day and by early evening, the pollen particles tend to fall back to nose level.
There isnโt a cure for hay fever, but you can try to prevent the worst of the problem with advice and treatment from our pharmacy. This may include anti-histamines, eyedrops or nasal sprays which work by reducing your bodyโs allergic reaction to pollen ๐
There are also some lifestyle changes you could try:
๐ Wearing wraparound sunglasses to prevent pollen getting into your eyes
๐๐ผ Putting Vaseline around your nose to trap pollen
๐ Stay inside, and keep windows and doors shut where possible
๐ Avoid walking on cut grass
๐ Donโt keep cut flowers in the house
๐ฆAvoid Polluted Streets - pollution and pollen is an eye-watering combination if you suffer from hay fever.
