I sometimes share this lovely story in hypnotherapy….
Share it with whoever needs it today 💕

‘An old man says to his grandson: ‘There’s a fight going on inside me. It’s a terrible fight between two wolves. One is evil - angry, greedy, jealous, arrogant, and cowardly. The other is good - peaceful, loving, modest, generous, honest, and trustworthy. These two wolves are also fighting inside you, and inside every other person too.’

After a moment, the boy asks, ‘Which wolf will win?’

The old man smiles.
‘The one you feed.’

We all have off days! This is what self-care looked like for me today!

I took myself out for a lunchtime dog walk. Picked some blackberries, then asked my neighbour if I could pick some of their cooking apples when I finish work. I’m going to make an apple and blackberry crumble this evening … and I might not even share it 😂

I lost the ability to switch off. I didn’t know back then, how it would negativity impact my happiness.

I had a design consultancy, as the workload increased, my working days become longer and longer, just to try and keep on top of the workload.

But even when I wasn’t at work I’d always be thinking about the next deadline.

A few years down the line I wasn’t just showing the signs of chronic stress, I started to feel really low. I’d often work Saturday mornings, but on a Saturday afternoon and a Sunday I’d ’work off my stress’ at the gym.

And it worked! I felt happier… until Monday.

I couldn’t understand why I felt low. I had good friends, and a supportive family. I reached my six figure salary. I could afford to buy myself all the material crap that I wanted.

The science of happiness is something I’ve become really interested in lately. And the question ‘is happiness really synthetic?’ pops up a lot.

I post frequently about the joy my work brings me, now I’m a therapist and coach.

What I have learnt is that happiness is partly found in our ability to be fully present. Thinking about the future, worrying about possible problems of the future only robs our joy of today.

I understand now that the reason daily walking boosts my happiness is because of flow. It isn’t just about appreciating the beauty of the countryside, it’s actually where I go into flow most effectively.

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi described “flow” as that state of complete immersion in something, when you lose track of time, feel fully engaged, and come away more energised than when you began.

That’s exactly what hiking gives me!

Flow was exactly what I needed all those years ago, especially being a creative. Yet I wasn’t creating the space to enable myself to reach that state.

Are you engaging in activities that allow you to enter into flow? What are they? Or have you lost the ability to switch off like I did all those years ago?

Therapy, relaxation, gratitude, vitamin D boost, calibrating circadian rhythm AND exercise all in one! What’s not to ❤️

I’m so lucky to work with such wonderful clients 🥰 My client showed up this week with a bowl full of home grown cherry tomatoes 🍅 They taste incredible. I’ll look forward to these tonight drizzled with my EVOO. Thanks so much! Wish I had the patience for growing veg 😆

When your business starts to feel like groundhog day... When is enough… enough?

You’ve worked your way up the ladder. Energetically, enthusiastically and bravely you decide to go it alone, finally building something for yourself.
The clients come, the team grows, you sign the contract on that stunning office, get the recognition... the success. And it feels great! But what happens when, further down the line, you no longer feel the joy in it?

It’s not just about being worn out. It’s that sinking feeling that maybe you’ve built a life that no longer excites you. You look back and feel proud of everything you achieved and tell yourself you should be feeling grateful. You’re earning good money. The kids are provided for. You can afford multiple luxury holidays. And yet… even after a break, the spark doesn’t return. Feeling flat, you wonder what the hell’s wrong with you.

Well... there’s nothing “wrong” with you.
We change. What drives us in our 30s rarely drives us in our 50s. In the early years, success and security fuel us doesn’t it? But what often follows is a deeper desire. Purpose and meaning. Because without it, even big achievements can feel weirdly empty.
I’ve been there too… In my former business I was a creative director running a design consultancy. But certain life experiences changed me, I evolved yet I became stuck. For years!

But the hardest part isn’t change itself. Change is exciting when you know what you want next. What paralyses us is uncertainty.

Staying stuck leads to stress, frustration, unfulfilment and can eventually lead to resentment. Taking even a small step into the unknown doesn’t necessarily mean packing in your business or your career, it may well be a side step, or a step back but one thing’s for sure; you’re unlikely to come up with ideas and solutions if you’re feeling stressed or frustrated. Coaching sessions are often where the answers reveal themselves. Maybe, just maybe, the most purposeful chapter of your life is yet to come!

This photo sums up nicely how I was feeling just over 10 years ago!

We love South Devon! Took the coastal path from Hope Cove to Bantham today! Walked back through the stunning village of West Buckland. Steep but very pretty 😍

Waking up and coming downstairs to these beauties! Thankyou

I used to think that you could get vitamin D from the sun all year round. You can’t! It’s only around about now that the sun is strong enough to get our vitamin D (in the UK!).

Vitamin D is so important that it’s now known as a hormone. Especially for women in menopause and post menopause. Because the benefits go far beyond helping the absorption of calcium for our bones and muscles!

Vitamin D also supports our heart health (which is our biggest killer in post menopause) and helps with immune function!

So a great excuse to make sure you get your walk out in the sunshine ladies!

And if you’re not sleeping well, morning exposure to the natural daylight is one of the most powerful things you can do to help reset your internal body clock!

Today I’m 53! Spending a few days away doing what I love… walking hilly coastal paths 😄 followed by a couple of drinks in a beautiful quaint Cornish pub and the catch of the day!

So i wanted to share this story… my husbands new boss is a lovely guy from China, he’s only in his late twenties… set up a business a few years ago in the UK. A couple of weeks ago it was his birthday, over here with no family the husband arranged a little celebration for his birthday and I spoke to him the following day. He was so touched that his employees had made so much effort for him for his birthday. He said that in China they don’t really celebrate their birthdays… instead they celebrate by taking their mum out for dinner as a thank you for giving birth… they celebrate their mum…
I love that….
So today I celebrate my mum… I can’t take you for dinner but… I can raise a glass to you… cheers to you mum… thank you for giving birth to me 53 years ago 💕💕
