“I’ll deal with it when I feel a bit calmer.”
Sounds sensible... But when it comes down to fears and phobias, waiting to 'feel ready' will only keep you stuck.
It’s a bit like saying, “I need to get fitter before I join the gym.” We both know it’s unlikely to happen that way.
Whether it’s flying, driving, health anxiety, social anxiety or something else entirely… the instinct is to avoid the thing that makes you feel uncomfortable. In the short term, that works, you feel relief. But underneath, the fear stays exactly where it is.
From a brain perspective, real lasting change doesn’t come from ‘thinking' about doing something differently, it comes from experiencing something different.
Because then your mind updates from “I thought this would be unbearable” to "I managed it.” That’s where the shift happens. That learning doesn’t come after you feel calm or confident, it’s what creates those feelings.
Which is where I come in. My role isn’t to tell you to just “face your fears,” it’s to help you get to a place where taking that first step feels possible, manageable and supported. Because once that first step happens, everything else starts to change. Those words “I feel like I’ve got my life back” might feel hard to imagine right now, and that’s completely okay. You don’t need to fully believe it’s possible yet. You just need a willingness to begin.
If there’s something you’ve been putting off because you’re waiting to feel ready… you don’t have to figure that out on your own. You’re very welcome to message me if you’d like to know more.
