We almost forgot

Bees are some of the most important pollinators, ensuring food and food security, sustainable agriculture, and biodiversity, and they significantly contribute to the mitigation of climate change and the conservation of the environment. In the long-term, the protection of bees and the beekeeping sector can help reduce poverty and hunger, as well as preserve a healthy environment and biodiversity.

Bees are also important in terms of sustainable agriculture and creating rural jobs. By pollinating, they increase agricultural production, thus maintaining diversity and variety in our fields and on our plates. In addition, they provide millions of people with jobs and are an important source of farmers' income.

Nevertheless, scientific studies show that there are more and more negative effects on the health of bees, which makes them increasingly endangered. This, in turn, requires us to take extra care of their survival, as harmful factors cause a decline in the resistance of bees, which affects their susceptibility to diseases, pests and the like. In addition, this is also problematic in terms of the protection and preservation of the environment, as bees foster biodiversity in nature and have a positive impact on the entire ecosystem and are a good indicator of the state of the environment.

What if…?

This is a great infographic with a great accompanying article from EdPsychInsight on reframing our understanding of behaviour that challenges us through a trauma-informed lens.

"As we strive to meet the increasingly complex needs of children and young people in the classroom, the resulting stress can diminish our compassion and lead to ever-quicker use of sanctions and exclusions. Here are just SIX typical statements and how they might be reframed in the context of trauma, loss and associated difficulties with attachment."

Today is the start of children’s mental health week

Our children have certainly been through a lot in the last few years, and stress and anxiety in our young is on the rise.

We can link stress, depression, and anxiety to the health of our guts, and the bacteria that live there.

We are learning more about the affect our beneficial bacteria have on our mood. Some bacteria are needed for healthy serotonin production (the feel-good neurotransmitter).

Low levels of certain beneficial bacteria are often seen in children with anxiety.

Interestingly c-section babies are shown to have reduced levels of beneficial bacteria as they do not pass through the va**na and miss out on all the good bacteria that live there.

So insuring our children have a healthy balance of good bacteria is a really important step in keeping them happy.

We can do this by increasing plant based fibres such as vegetables, fruit, wholegrains, nuts and seeds and pulses. These fibres help to feed beneficial bacteria.

We can also look at reducing sugar in the diet. Sugar feeds the unwanted bacteria and yeasts in the gut which can lead to imbalance.

Every year, campaign to raise awareness of su***de prevention.

Every year organisations and communities around the world come together to raise awareness of how we can create a world where fewer people die by su***de.

Each year has a different theme and focus, to bring to light a specific aspect of su***de prevention.

Why is it important?

The latest su***des statistics showed that in 2018, in the UK and Republic of Ireland, more than 6,800 people died by su***de. Every life lost to su***de is a tragedy.

And we know that su***de is preventable, it’s not inevitable.

But not being okay is still widely stigmatised. And governments can still make better, more ambitious plans to prevent su***de.

Samaritans are there for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
