A special well done to our brilliant team in Luton Town Practice for the amazing feedback they received recently. A few weeks ago, Noreen McCarthey received very warm feedback from a patient, who shared, “I’ve seen and heard a lot of bad press about GP receptionists and know they often get a bad reputation. But Noreen is such an asset to the service and a prime example of how wrong those opinions are. I’ve never received anything less than great service from all the staff at Luton Town Centre GP Surgery, and Noreen always stands out as a friendly face who’s always willing to help.”

Last week, another patient visited the surgery feeling anxious and confused about their health and unfamiliar with the new Total Triage online system. Receptionists Lisa Worboys and Noreen went above and beyond, taking the time to sit with the patient, calm their nerves, and guide them through the process. The patient was so moved by their kindness that they returned later with flowers, thanking them, saying the experience had completely changed their outlook. Keep up the great work, team!

New mothers, you've got this! This World Breastfeeding Week, here are 5 tips to make breastfeeding your baby a little bit easier.

• Get comfortable. Find a position that works for both you and your baby. Use pillows for support if needed.
• Establish a good latch. Ensure your baby's mouth covers both the ni**le and ar**la. This helps prevent soreness and ensures effective feeding.
• Feed on demand. Newborns typically need to feed every 2-3 hours. Watch for hunger cues rather than sticking to a strict schedule.
• Stay hydrated and nourished. Drink plenty of water and maintain a balanced diet to support milk production.
• Seek support. Don't hesitate to ask for help from lactation consultants, midwives, or experienced mothers if you're struggling.

Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition for babies and offers numerous health benefits for both mother and child. It's a natural process, but it can come with challenges. Remember, every journey is unique and support is always available.

It's World Self-Care Day – a reminder to pause and reflect on how we’re looking after both our mental and physical wellbeing. Self-care doesn’t have to mean big changes. Sometimes it’s the small things, a short walk on your break, five minutes of deep breathing, staying hydrated, or simply switching off for the evening – that make the biggest difference.

By taking care of our bodies, we support our minds. And by caring for our mental health, we’re better equipped to face each day with clarity, balance, and resilience. Take a moment for yourself today – your mind and body will thank you.

Earlier this month, Gavin Dunn & Matthew Clarke proudly represented HUC at Armed Forces Day in Taunton.

As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, we are committed to supporting our Armed Forces personnel, veterans, and their families — recognising the unique skills, dedication, and experience they bring to our workforce.

It was fantastic to connect with so many people who stopped by to learn more about HUC, how we support local communities with the services we provide and our ongoing pledge to offer meaningful careers for the Armed Forces community.

🧡 HUC at Hatfield Health Day 🧡

We had a brilliant day at Hatfield Health Day, connecting with our local community and fellow health and wellbeing partners.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall at Hatfield Leisure Centre! We had so many great conversations about NHS 111 – how it works, how to access it (including translation services), and the different patient pathways available.

It was also heartening to hear positive feedback from those who’ve used 111, and important to learn more about the barriers some still face when accessing care.

🎉 Organised by Hatfield Primary Care Network, Hatfield Health Matters, BETTER, Herts Sports & Physical Activity Partnership and Healthy Hub Welwyn & Hatfield – this event showcased the power of working together.

From NHS health checks and judo sessions for safe falling to adult learning and therapy dogs 🐾 (shoutout to Ollie from Jimmy Macs!), the day was full of fantastic engagement and energy.

HUC team members Sophia Woollams and Lara Galliford were proud to represent HUC – and we even had a few people express interest in joining our team! 💼

On Friday, 5 July, we had the pleasure of attending the Luton Health Fest alongside all Primary Care Networks, East London NHS Foundation Trust, Keech Hospice, Bedfordshire University, Community Pharmacy, Luton Family Hubs and many more.

The aim of the event was to bring health-based advice, guidance, and career insights directly to your doorstep in an inclusive and interactive setting. We focused on addressing health inequalities, encouraging wellness, and raising health awareness in our community. Attendees benefited from on-the-spot BP and Glucose checks and insightful sessions on women's health, GP access, diabetes, mental health and more.

It was wonderful to connect with many local residents and hear their positive experiences with the services provided by NHS 111. We also took the opportunity to address any misconceptions about these services, ensuring that users are aware of the appropriate options for their needs.
