In celebration of Chinese New Year and specifically The Year of the Dragon, Handside Hall have been working on another spectacular wall display.

The Year of the Dragon is revered as a symbol of power, nobility and good luck- we hope that this is true for you all in the coming year.

The guys had a lovely time fixing up a resident's garden with Groundworks, although it was wet and windy, the guys were in high spirits ready to show what they can do. Well done!!!

At Briars, we love baking in our weekly "Buddy up and Bake" sessions but also try and focus on living a healthy lifestyle through healthy diet and exercise. During our allotment haul, we dug up some fantastic beetroots and decided to try something a little different with them- we made beetroot chocolate brownies! These brownies contain around half the fat of your usual chocolate brownies but still pack a chocolatey punch and a slightly gooey centre from the moisture in the beetroot. We added in a few white chocolate chunks for added texture too. We could not believe how good they tasted and needless to say they didn't stay around long as everyone wanted to try them!
It has given us the desire to get creative and experiment with our ingredients a bit more, so who knows what we will create next?

Yesterday, Briars Pavilion were visited by some very special guests! Pickles and Arthur are local therapy ponies from Pixie and Pickles Adventures and just look how adorable they are! Pickles is a little princess and loved being groomed, massaged and showered with affection while Arthur most enjoyed being taken for a walk and having a graze on the grass in our outside area. It's lovely to see how different their personalities are and both equally filled our morning with enjoyment and happiness making it impossible to choose a favourite!

What an amazing haul from our allotment today! Vibrant carrots, perfect potatoes, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes and the biggest runner beans we've ever seen! I just know they will all taste as good as they look.

Since the beginning of spring, a group of us here at Briars have been working hard to get our allotment up, running and producing lots of amazing fruit and veg. We have researched, planned and sown our crops and now we are starting to harvest some of them. This produce has been used in our cooking groups to make some delicious seasonal meals and desserts and has also been sold to our friends and family so that we can invest in more seeds for next year. So far we have had potatoes, onions, lettuce, broad beans, strawberries, blackberries and tomatoes and still have lots still growing ready for harvesting later in the year.
We are all so proud of what we have achieved so far, and now that we have started to reap the benefits of all of our hard work, we are super excited to continue this project and see what else we can grow.
