With soaring temperatures continuing to reach over 30 degrees celsius this week, our clinicians are issuing a polite warning to parents of young children:

- Apply sun cream before going out in the sun 🧴
- Avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours ☀️
- Dress children in light, loose-fitting clothing 👕🩳
- Prioritise shaded spots rather than areas in full-sun 🌳🍉
- Ensure they stay hydrated and drink plenty of water 💧
- Keep your home cool 🏡🧊🌡️

Small steps can make a big difference in keeping infants and children safe from the heat and ensuring they can enjoy the sun, safely.

This week, in honour of International Nurses’ Day, we are shining the spotlight on colleagues in specialised nursing roles.

Adult safeguarding lead Enda oversees the trust's safeguarding adults team. A significant portion of his day is spent educating staff, formulating safeguarding strategies, and supervising members of the team.

‘We may not receive cards or formal recognition, but it’s always uplifting to hear feedback months later that someone we supported is now living in better conditions. This is our reward.’

Thank you Enda for everything you do.

This week, in honour of International Nurses’ Day, we are shining the spotlight on colleagues in specialised nursing roles.

George is the trust’s lead for advanced practice. A nurse by profession, it’s his role to support registered healthcare professionals to work at an advanced level of practice which involves a high degree of autonomy and complex decision making.

‘Nursing can be a great, rewarding career and with so many specialties there is something for everyone. It can be really tough at times but you are often in the most privileged of positions. You might be supporting someone at the best or worst time of their life, and you have the opportunity to really make a difference for patients and their families.’

Thank you George for everything you do.

This week, in honour of International Nurses’ Day, we are shining the spotlight on some of our colleagues.

Claudia is a ward manager and a Daisy Award winner who enjoys ensuring that patients receive the highest possible standard of care and the best experience while an inpatient. ‘People skills, good communication skills, understanding multiple personalities, and treating all staff as individuals and with respect’ are the skills which will help you in this role she says.

Her advice for anyone considering a similar path is to be ‘proud of what you do, achieve what you can, and be proud of working for the NHS as a healthcare professional.’

Thank you Claudia for everything you do.

This week, in honour of International Nurses’ Day, we are shining the spotlight on colleagues in specialised nursing roles.

Dijana is our Gynaecology matron who most enjoys being able to make a meaningful difference for both patients and staff. Whether it is helping a woman feel listened to during a difficult time, supporting a colleague through a challenging shift, or improving a service so that care is better for future patients, she finds it incredibly rewarding to know the work has a real impact.

‘It’s important to always remember the person behind the patient. Clinical excellence is vital, but compassion, dignity, and humanity are what people remember most.’

Thank you Dijana for everything you do.
