Biggleswade Mayor Judges Beautiful Balcony Competition at Mantles Court Care Home

Mantles Court Care Home in London Road Biggleswade was delighted to welcome the Mayor of Biggleswade, Councillor Jonathan Woodhead, on Friday as the special guest judge for the home’s Beautiful Balcony Competition.

Each household at the care home had been set the creative challenge of decorating their balcony or patio space to help brighten up the outdoor areas for residents and their families. The results were beautiful, with a vibrant array of flowers, plants, and decorative touches.

Councillor Woodhead toured all the outdoor areas, chatting with residents and team members along the way. After much deliberation, he awarded first place to the Kingfisher Household, whose balcony had been transformed into an elegant tea party setting. The winning design featured a range of beautiful plants, decorations and a water feature.

Cllr Woodhead stated: 'It was wonderful to see the hard work the residents had put in to their displays. It was great to spend time with some of Biggleswade's oldest residents and have a chat with them about their experiences. Well done to Kingfisher who designed the winning balcony display!'

Julie Oakley-Reid, General Manager at Mantles Court, said: “We are so proud of all our households – they really went above and beyond to make their balconies and patios special for our residents. It was wonderful to see everyone come together and enjoy the day, and we’re incredibly grateful to Councillor Woodhead for joining us and helping to celebrate the hard work of our teams.”

🌟 A Fond Farewell After 19 Remarkable Years 🌟

This week we say a heartfelt goodbye to someone who has been a central part of the Quantum Care family for nearly two decades — our Director of HR and Training, Wanda Spooner.

Over the years, Wanda has been a constant source of support, wisdom, and kindness. Whether guiding teams through challenges or offering a listening ear, she’s touched the lives of so many with her calm, compassionate approach and unwavering commitment.

Her impact on Quantum Care cannot be overstated. She’s helped shape not just our policies and practices, but our culture — always putting people first, and always with heart.

We will miss her dearly, both professionally and personally, but wish her all the very best in her new chapter.

Matt Turmaine MP Visits Residents and Staff at Courtland Lodge 🏡

Matt Turmaine, Member of Parliament for Watford, visited residents and staff at Courtland Lodge Care Home last week for an engaging question-and-answer session.

The session took place in one of the home’s communal lounges where residents and staff raised topics important to them, including social care, Watford Hospital, and other local issues. Mr. Turmaine listened attentively and responded to a range of questions, offering insight into his work in Parliament and ongoing efforts to support his constituents.

Residents welcomed the opportunity to connect with their local representative in a meaningful way in an accessible setting, which is why it’s important for Members of Parliament to visit care homes in their area, as many residents continue to take an interest in politics and vote in local and general elections.

Matt Turmaine MP for Watford said “It was great to meet residents, talk about their issues and to answer questions. It is important to keep in touch with everyone right across town. As I used to work in Health and Social Care, the visit was of particular interest to me. On a boiling hot day, I was very grateful for the most welcome and refreshing cup of tea on offer. The staff were very helpful and clearly well-loved by the residents”

Courtland Lodge Home Manager Marta Carter said “Everyone was very grateful to Matt for his visit and were encouraged to see an MP visiting the home to listen to their priorities”.

Residents Visit St. John’s School in Lemsford to See Mary Poppins Performance

Residents and staff from a number of local Quantum Care homes were invited to St. John’s School in Lemsford to see the children perform their version of Mary Poppins.

The school kindly invite our homes to visit each year to see the play that their children are performing and each time our residents and staff are enthralled by the show. This year was no different!

Mary Poppins has so many well known and fabulous musical pieces and the children certainly knew how to sing them. Everyone watching was singing along, clapping and cheering the performers on.

It was a wonderful show and we are all extremely grateful to the children and staff at the school for inviting us to this year’s performance.

More Sun, Sea and Smiles in Southend!

Hot on the heels of The Mead, both Riverside Lodge and Mayfair Lodge have taken advantage of the recent wonderful weather with day trips out to Southend-on-Sea to take in the sights and to enjoy the local delights.

Leisurely strolls along the promenade, fresh sea air, ice cream and, of course, a lovely fish and chips meal, residents and staff had a fabulous time!

🌊 Sun, Sea & Smiles in Southend! 🏖️

On Tuesday, residents and staff from The Mead in Borehamwood enjoyed a road trip down to Southend-On-Sea and what a day it was!

With the sun shining and a refreshing sea breeze, it was the perfect setting for a relaxed stroll along the iconic pier, taking in the coastal views and lively attractions 🎢

No trip to the seaside would be complete without a traditional meal of fish and chips from a local favourite, and the ultimate summer treat, a 99 with a flake 🍦

On Sunday, resident Tony from Riverside Lodge Care Home fulfilled his personal wish to be baptised. With support from Riverside Lodge’s dedicated activities team and his loving family, Tony was able to take this important step in his faith journey at St Mary’s Church in Rickmansworth.

Respecting individual beliefs and supporting residents' spiritual wellbeing is an important part of the care provided in our homes. Riverside Lodge is proud to have supported Tony in this meaningful decision and would like to say a big thank you to St Mary’s Church for their warm welcome.
