Thrilled to share that I will be presenting our work at the 20th European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) Scientific Conference 2025, taking place in Paris, France 🇫🇷.
Our abstract, on behalf of PACMANN Study group co authors

“The PACCMAN (Perianal Abscess and Faecal Calprotectin in Preclinical Crohn’s disease with Microbiome Analysis) Pilot Study – the ‘simple’ perianal abscess may have potential to alter the natural history of Crohn’s disease”,
has been accepted for an oral presentation (Elevator Pitch – IBD session).

🩺 NHS Pay Update – June 2025 💸

Good news making its way through the system — the new pay circular is now officially released.

🔍 Here’s a quick breakdown for my fellow medics:

📈 4% increase in basic pay for all doctors and dentists on national contracts — that means Consultants, GPs, Specialty Doctors, and us in training too.

📅 The raise is backdated to 1st April 2025, with arrears expected in your August payslip.

🌍 IMG colleagues who started after April? No worries — it’ll be backdated to your actual start date.

🎁 Trainees (yes, that includes Core, IMT, and Higher Surgical Trainees) will also receive an additional one-off £750.

As someone navigating the surgical training grind, I know this won’t solve all our concerns — but it’s a step in the right direction. Recognition matters, even in small increments.

💬 Whether this is enough, or still far from fair… I’ll leave that to you all to debate.

In the world of surgery, precision and learning go hand in hand. Each incision made with a scalpel is not just a step in a procedure, but an opportunity to gain insights into the human body and the intricate dance of life and science. Surgeons, while trained and experienced, continue to learn with every operation. The body is a complex system, and each patient presents unique challenges that require adaptation and understanding.

Complications, though often seen as setbacks, serve as profound educators. They teach resilience, the importance of meticulous attention to detail, and the necessity of continued education. When a surgery does not go as planned, it pushes the boundaries of knowledge and skill, compelling medical professionals to delve deeper and refine their techniques.

🎓 Proud to have attended the Laparoscopic Skills in Emergency Surgery course at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh on 11th May 2025.

🗂️ The course combined expert-led case discussions with practical skills stations including:

Laparoscopic anastomosis
Suturing perforated ulcers
Biliary sepsis management
Hernia repair (TAP approach)
