Asthma is a long-term condition affecting the airways in the lungs, causing them to become inflamed and narrow, which can make it difficult to breathe. In the UK alone, around 5.4 million people are currently receiving treatment for asthma—roughly 1 in every 12 adults and 1 in every 11 children.

Symptoms to Look Out For:

Shortness of breath
Chest tightness
Wheezing (a whistling sound when breathing)
Persistent coughing, especially at night or early in the morning
What Can Trigger an Asthma Attack? Common triggers include allergens (like pollen or dust mites), cold air, exercise, smoke, and stress. Recognizing these triggers is key to managing symptoms effectively.

Treatment and Management:

Reliever Inhalers: Used to quickly relieve symptoms during an asthma attack.
Preventer Inhalers: Taken daily to reduce inflammation and prevent symptoms.
Lifestyle Adjustments: Regular exercise, avoiding smoking, and staying clear of triggers can make a big difference.

Personalized Asthma Action Plan: Work with your GP to create a plan tailored to your needs.

🔹 Did you know? Each year, asthma leads to around 77,000 hospital admissions in the UK, and sadly, approximately 1,200 people die from asthma attacks. However, with the right care, many of these cases can be prevented.

Remember, with the right approach, asthma can be managed effectively, allowing you to lead a full and active life. If you’re experiencing asthma symptoms, consult your healthcare provider for guidance.

Excited to share a new milestone in my career—I've officially started my ST4 training as a General Surgery Registrar at West Midlands Hospital! This is a big step forward in a journey that has been both challenging and rewarding. I'm incredibly grateful for the support from my mentors, colleagues, friends, and family. Being invited - Just returned from an incredible experience as a medical examiner at St. George's University London! 🌟 The caliber of candidates was truly impressive, and it was inspiring to see such dedication and talent in the medical field.

Reflecting on the differences between medical exams in the UK and Pakistan, I found some fascinating contrasts. In the UK, the emphasis is heavily on practical skills and real-world application, with a focus on OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations) that simulate real patient interactions. In Pakistan, while there’s also a significant focus on practical skills, theoretical knowledge plays a slightly bigger role in assessments.

What stood out at St. George's was the anonymity and fairness of the process. Students didn’t know who the examiners were or their backgrounds, ensuring an unbiased evaluation. We used a standardized scoring system to maintain consistency and uphold high standards across the board.

Both systems have their unique strengths and challenges, but the universal passion for medicine and the drive to excel, regardless of geographical boundaries, was truly inspiring.

To all aspiring doctors out there, keep pushing your limits and striving for excellence! 🌍💪
