The weather has been exceptionally hot the last few weeks, and it's set to continue.
Here are some tips on how to stay well during the heatwave, and remember:

- Try to avoid the peak daylight hours between 11am - 3pm
- ALWAYS wear sunscreen (yes, even people of colour), factor 30+ is best
- Wear a wide brimmed hat to protect you from the sun
- Find shade where you can, or take regular breaks from the sun
- STAY HYDRATED

Scroll through for more advice, replenish fluids if you have been sweating, avoid heavy meals as your body temperature will raise in trying to digest them, look out for those more vulnerable who may struggle more in the heat.

Cholesterol is a fatty substance found in your blood. Your body needs some cholesterol to function, but too much of the wrong kind can clog your arteries and increase your risk of heart attacks, strokes, and circulation problems.

There are two main types of cholesterol:
HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) – the “good” cholesterol, helps remove excess cholesterol from your bloodstream

LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) – the “bad” cholesterol, which can stick to artery walls and cause blockages

The problem is that high cholesterol presents no symptoms. You won’t feel it building up but over time, it can do serious damage.

The good news is that a simple blood test is all it takes to check your cholesterol levels. Book in at your surgery to have a cholesterol blood test to stay on top of your health.

If your results are high, you may be advised to make some lifestyle changes or prescribed medication if needed.

❤️ Take charge of your heart health.

High blood pressure is also known as “the silent killer” for a reason - it often shows no symptoms until serious damage has already been done.

A healthy blood pressure reading is typically around 120/80mmHg.
If your reading is 140/90mmHg or above, it’s considered high and could put strain on your heart, arteries, and other organs like your kidneys and brain.

Left untreated, high BP can lead to:
Heart attacks
Strokes
Vision problems
Kidney disease

🩺 How to check your blood pressure:
✅ At your GP surgery (most will have a free to use machine in reception)
✅ Local pharmacy
✅ Home blood pressure monitors

It’s quick, painless, and free — and could save your life.

Don’t wait for symptoms. Know your numbers.
