✨ Let’s talk electrotherapies ✨

As a veterinary physiotherapist, I’m often asked what “electrotherapies” actually are and how they help your horse or dog.

I use a range of modalities including:
🔹 Laser therapy
🔹 Long wave ultrasound
🔹 TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation)
🔹 NMES (Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation)
🔹 Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

Each of these has a slightly different role, but they all work alongside my hands-on treatments to support healing, comfort, and performance.

💡 Laser therapy can help stimulate tissue repair and reduce inflammation
💡 Ultrasound can target deeper tissues, helping to improve circulation and tissue healing
💡 TENS is great for pain relief
💡 NMES helps activate and strengthen muscles
💡 PEMF supports cellular function and can aid recovery

The key thing to remember is that these therapies don’t replace manual techniques—they enhance them.

By combining electrotherapies with hands-on physiotherapy, we can:
✔️ Improve treatment outcomes
✔️ Speed up recovery
✔️ Support long-term musculoskeletal health

Every animal is different, so treatments are always tailored to the individual and their needs.

If you’re unsure whether electrotherapy could benefit your horse or dog, feel free to get in touch 🐴🐶

🔷 Membership Renewal 🔷
When choosing a veterinary physiotherapist for your horse or pet, it’s really important to look for someone who is a member of a professional body like the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists 🐴

Why does this matter?

✨ High standard of training – Members have completed recognised, in-depth qualifications
✨ Fully insured – Giving you peace of mind every time your animal is treated
✨ Ongoing learning – They stay up to date with the latest research and techniques
✨ Professional standards – Ensuring your animal’s welfare always comes first

Why a Multi-Disciplinary Team Matters 🐴

*this photo is from google not a clients horse*

Keeping horses comfortable and performing well often comes down to good teamwork between your farrier, vet, saddle fitter, dentist, trainer and veterinary physiotherapist.

A horse works as one connected system, so something as small as foot balance can influence the whole body. When a hoof isn’t balanced correctly it changes how the limb loads, which can affect joints, posture and muscle use further up the body.

A simple example:
A horse with long toes and low heels may struggle to break over properly. This can increase strain through the tendons and change how the horse moves, often leading to tension in the shoulders, back or pelvis — areas we commonly treat in veterinary physiotherapy.

By working together and sharing information, each professional can address different parts of the problem and help keep the horse comfortable, moving well, and performing at its best.

Good horse care really is a team effort. 🐎

With brighter days ahead and the eventing season fast approaching, now is the perfect time to start thinking about getting both you and your horse competition-ready ☀️🐎

Proper preparation isn’t just about performance — it’s about injury prevention, longevity, and confidence going into the season.

Here’s why preseason fitness matters:✨ Gradual conditioning strengthens muscles, tendons, and ligaments✨ Improved rider posture and balance helps your horse move correctly✨ Better symmetry = reduced strain and compensation patterns✨ Increased stamina for both horse and rider

Starting slowly and building fitness step-by-step gives the body time to adapt safely. Rushing fitness is one of the biggest causes of early-season injuries I see.

💡 Don’t forget — rider biomechanics play a huge role. If your position is uneven or unstable, your horse has to compensate. This is where EQ Bands sessions can make a huge difference in improving posture, core engagement, and body awareness in the saddle.

✔️ Fit horse✔️ Balanced rider✔️ Strong partnership

That’s the winning combination for a successful and injury-free season 🙌

If you’d like help preparing for the season ahead, message me to book a physio or rider session

📲 Please check the Equigate app

I’ve finally managed to give everyone a date to reschedule physio appointments. If you haven’t received a message, please let me know. Thank you so much for your patience — this has taken longer than expected while I’m pacing myself and juggling work and admin (definitely need more hours in the day!).

If the date I’ve given you doesn’t work, don’t worry at all — just send me some days/times that suit you better. And if your dog or horse needs to be seen sooner, please let me know and I’ll do my best to make something work.

📱 Important: If you need to update the Equigate app, you won’t have received a message yet.

If you need to get in touch and can’t access the app:

Thank you again for your understanding and support 💙🐾🐴

✨ My first week back! ✨

Three months off was definitely not part of the plan, but I can’t thank you all enough for your patience, understanding, and the kind, caring messages I’ve received. I honestly feel like I have an extended physio family 🤍

I’ve eased myself back in with a few local clients to see how I felt. It hasn’t been completely migraine-free, but I’ve absolutely loved being back and I’m ready to start the year as we mean to go on.

All messages will be replied to and any cancelled clients will be contacted and rebooked by Tuesday. Thank you so much for bearing with me.

So, whether you’re aiming to start the eventing season in tip-top condition or focus on nailing that centre line straight, now’s the time to book in.

🐎 Physio sessions & EquiBand training available
💪 Improving power, performance & symmetry

I’m so happy to be back – thank you all again!
