🥰 Experiencing chronic conditions or curious about the topic?
I've just finished 's "I haven't been entirely honest with you".
This memoir takes her personal experience of chronic fatigue and layers over it what she describes as "Treasures" - discoveries she made that facilitated her recovery.
I forced myself to read it slowly. Whilst it is all described through the lens of chronic illness, those treasures are all elements that provide a recipe for living an authentic life, and I could easily have devoured it in just a few sittings.
Miranda has written in her usual style, very much speaking to the reader directly. It contains her usual brand of humour which I happen to love. It won't surprise fans it contains dance breaks with a soundtrack for each chapter.
I particularly like how she regularly acknowledges that the advice she describes whilst easy to say can often be difficult to implement. Often self-help books run the risk of leaving the reader feeling a little helpless when written with the implication that it should all be very easy to fix. Miranda does a great job of avoiding that.
I've started using the treasures as a framework for discussion with clients who are experience in chronic fatigue, pain or illness. Exploring what each treasure means for them maintains their agency, whilst providing a place to start with their process of acceptance / recovery.
A great resource! ❤️🙏
I also resonated with her acknowledgements... I'd really like to be her best friend!
